UNIONVALE From 16 acres on the Ersel Gubser farm in the Grand Island district more than even tons an acre of Golden Cross sweet corn were raised this sea son it was revealed when the last truckload was marketed Tuesday evening. Eighty tons of It were delivered to the Blue Lake company co-operative cannery at West Salem, -and the remainder was shipped to California fresh corn markets. Sprinkler system irrigation was . used .in. raising the corn. ; Twenty acres in an earlier field - on the same farm produced 108 tons of corn and it was sold ort contract to the Hillsboro cannery. . ..This is the second year that the It acres has been in crop. Dyer, one of the prominent poultry raisers of the Albany vicinity, is shipping 300 doten hatching eggs to the Hawaiian Islands every week. Dyer specialises in high grade poultry and the eggs draw top price. Another big Industry of the eounty Is that of the sword fern. Last week O. K. Howard 'of 8clo shipped 800 bales of these ferns to Los Angeles, Calif., and the previous week he shipped a ear load to New Tork City. Every fern has to be picked by hand and trimmed, giving quite a num ber of people work.
