Turner Alumni Group Gathers TURNER Members of the old er group of Turner high school alumni met in Newberg park Sunday to, renew old acquaint ances. Keith Roberts was elected the new president and Mrs. Jack Heath secretary. The second Snn day in August was chosen the annual picnic day. Hutchlngs and daughters, Sara Margaret and Martha Jane returned home Tues day from Florence, where Mr Hutchlngs has been employed with the state highway paint crew. Hutchlngs left Wednesday morning for Grass Valley, where the crew will begin work again. Nadine Holt arrived Sunday from San Pedro, Calif., for an In definite Tlslt with relatives In Jef ferson and vicinity. At present she is visiting at the home of her great aunt, Mrs. C. M. Mr. and Mrs. George Bailey and daughter will move next week to Haines In e astern Ore gon, where Bailey will be athletle coach. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Berlnger have bought a small tract of land from C. J. Thurston; and will build a small house on the lot. They are from Meridian, Idaho, and have been staying at Harris- burg for a short time. Visit Woodburn From California WOODBURN Ruth and Thel Johnson are visiting their sister, Mrs. Rodney Alden on their vacation. Thelma Johnson lives in Arcadia. Calif., where she is the director of home economics in the Arcadia Junior high school Ruth Johnson is a graduate of the Willamette university. She Is the librarian of the University of Southern California. Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Smith left second Laymen s Retreat Planned Rev. Neary Will Conduct Exercises at Mu Angel . College Next Week- MT. ANGELr A -i second lay men's retreat will be held at Mt. Angel college F,rlday, Saturday and Sunday, August 23, 24 and 25, with th Very Rev. Raymond Neary, OSB, prior of St. Martin's abbey, LAcey. Wasn., conducting th exercises,. Th first retreat this year, held In Jun, was Attended by 71 : men from various parts of Oregon .and from Washington. The retreats' have been held Cor 20 successive years. For the first 18 years just one annual retreat was held eaeh year, but fer the last tour years It was deemed ad visable to hold the spiritual exer cises 'at two different times to gire employed men a chanc of two dates. Alter the first trial It proved so successful that it has been continued. The retreat will open with holy mass at 10 p. m. on August IS and will end with communion breakfast on Sunday morning August 25. Reservations should be made now by writing to the Retreat Guild, St. Benedict, Ore. Th men will be housed In the seminary building. Thursday for the' Dufer Sunday school picnic at Bear Springs. After the plcnie they will visit friends In Dufer for several days. Then they will spend a week or two along th Oregon coast.
