Barlund, Porter Signed by Vets The Veterans of Foreign Wars boxing club announced yesterday they had signed Sig Barlund of Marshfield to meet Lew Porter of Boise, Idaho, over the eight round route in one half of a double main event at the armory,. May 9th. The Veterans matchmaker said the other feature bout would pro bably see Al Spina, against the best opponent available. Porter, a new face in north west boxing circles, has met some of the best middlewcights in and around the middle west. Lew has boxed Billy Pryor, Dallas Bennett, Midnight Bell and Johnny Shum way. He is a good boxer and ap pears to carry a hefty punch in Portland workouts. Barlund seems to be getting himself into better condition and claims he would like nothing bet ter than to get another crack at Leo "The JLIon" Turner, or give Tony Kahut a chance to even the score. The heavy hitting Finn Is not much on the alibis, but from In side information, he was unable to train a day for the Kahut match, due to a badly cat lip, and had to sit in the steam box for over two and a half hours to take off weight so he would not be over 140 pounds for Kahut. The Veterans matchmaker will announce the opponent for Spina inside of the next, few days. A six round added attraction and two four round bouts will be signed at the same time.
