Lady Recovers Voice in Time . for . Performance SILVERTON Major crisis was arerted In the Silverton high school senior play, "Jane Mad," when the leading lady, Carolyn Kaufman, who was stricken with' a severe cold and could only whis per, recovered sufficiently to take part In the presentation at the high school auditorium Friday night at 8 o'clock. This play is one of the newest written and rates second among the several of Samuel French's se lections. It is a dramatization i presenting a few days in the lives jof the Wood and Harris families. I The characters and their roles I are as follows: Carolyn Kaufman ; as the grown up lady at 15, Pen jny Wood; Mar)yn Waarvick as the ' mischievous neighbor boy. Chuck Harris; Bernice Hannon as Pen ny's beloved mother, Mrs. Wood: Chet Carson as Penny's busy fa- tner. Dr. Wood; Mervyn Dullum as Penny's wise uncle, Mervyn Roberts; Jack Lincoln as the de pendent hired man, Elmer Puttie. Barbara Pennell as the Woods' family maid, Effie; Phyllis Adams as Penny's friend, Milly Lou; Ver non Barkhurst as Penny's uncle's friend, Roger Van Vleck; Glen Ba ker as Chuck's father, Mr. Harris; Marie Anne Whitlock as another of Penny's many friends, Shirley Wentworth; Marvin Mellbye as a friend of the Wood's family, Ralph Wentworth; and Verla Aycock as Chuck's glamorous sister, Julie Harris. Mrs. Burkhart Dies at Albany A L B A N Y Mrs. Mayme L. Burkhart, 62, member of a prom inent Linn count pioneer family, died at the General hospital Tues day night as the! result of an at tack of pneumonia. Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon from the Fisher Funeral home, with Rev. H. H. Hubbell and Rev. Alan Banks in charge of the services. Burial will be in the Masonic cem etery. Mayme L. Allen was born in Al bany September 3, 1877, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Nelson H. Allen. She grew to womanhood in Albany, attended the public schools, and later was graduated from Albany college. Following her graduation from college, she taught for several terms in the public schools of the city. On November 12, 1905, she was married to William C. Burkhart, who died December 1, 1936. Mrs. Burkhart was a member of the Interdenominational church. Mrs. Burkhart is survived by a brother, Francis N. Allen of Plain view, Minn.; two sisters, Mrs. Alma L. Marlow of Seattle, Wash., and Mrs. Edna A. Miller of Al bany, and five nephews and eleven nieces. Club Will Hear Flower Speaker BETHANY In keeping with "Wild Flower Conservation week, opening March 17, efforts are be ing made to have a speaker on that subject at the Friday night meeting of the community club. At the same meeting 4H club awards will be distributed to Eve lyn Johnson. Phyllis Cook, Olga Torvend, Violet Walen, Janell Johnson and Beverly Zimmer man. Librarian Feted On Her Birthday SILVERTON Gladys Fletcher, school librarian, was honored on her birthday anniversary when Mrs. Lee Haskins entertained at luncheon in her honor. Bidden were Miss Fletcher, Muriel Bent son, Ardell Scott and Stella Dybe vik. Don Douris of Salem will be speaker at a junior high assembly here on March 18. Janice Campbell, little daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Campbell, Is again at her home after being treated at the Silverton hospital recovering from the effects of too much medicine which she had eaten, believing it to be chocolate candy. James Jenson, son of Rev. and Mrs. J. J. Jenson, is recovering from an attack of influenza. Errol Ross will have his new super service station ready for opening this month. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Grace re turned from a trip to the Oregon beaches Wednesday.
