Of prim Interest at Sllrerton is the hiring ot a new principal to fill (ha vacancy left by the resignation of Herman Kramer who will go to Hood Rlrer. A number of ap plications for this position hare been received. The calendar for the remainder of the school year was arranged Wednesday night and includes the usual Easter vacation March 22 to March 25 inclusive. May 31 was set as termination date for the school year with the tentative commencement day set for May 3 0 and baccalaureate for May 26. The tentative graduation list sub mitted by Kramer contains 115 names. Some ot these will likely not be graduated, however, Ad ams added. A call for bids for the wood will be made within two weeks, the minutes show. The board also arranged to purchase a number of fire extinguishers' to be used in places now needing them. These include the new high school stage, the manual training rooms, the lunch rooms and the home eco nomics room. Funeral services will be held from the Fortmiller Funeral home Friday at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Willamette Memorial park. Mrs. Cooper was born at Nor ton, Kansas, March 5. 1S97, and died on the anniversary of her birth. She had been a resident ot Oregon for 31 years. On June 7, 1916, she was married to Louis Wallett who passed away in Feb ruary, 1929. fn September, 1934 she married Russell B. Cooper, who survives. She is also survived by two chil dren. Leroy L. Wallet and Leona M. Salem, Woodburn, Mt. Angel, Stayton and other surrounding communi ties were well represented in the audience. All proceeds for Sil Terton went to the high school piano fund and youth service. As a special feature for Sil verton folk. Director John Stark Evans turned his baton over to Tom Kaarhus to direct "Salute to Finland." Final Testing For Power Set WEST SALEM When Bonne ville officials Inspect and test the Bonneville power sub-station on the Dallas-Salem highway near here in the next lew days, power will be ready for d 1 s t r 1 b u tion when contracted for In parts of Polk, Marion and Yamhill coun ties, it was announced yesterday. Work on a permanent station to replace the temporary sab-station was begun Monday. Two bulldor ers are at work on the north ide of the 10 acre site on the Hogg ranch. About 20 men are working on the project, under the direction of E. P. Bergman of Salem and H C. Deutsch, assistant engineer in charge. Silverton Skiers Furnish Aid Kit SILVERTON The Silverton Ski club is furnishing a first aid kit for the use of its members, it was reported at this week's meet ing of the club. A motion was carried to restrict the voting pow er to those whose membership fees were kept up to date. The vice president, Lester Rue, who presided in the absence of the regular president, announced that a scrap book Is being made which will contain stories and pic tres of the trips made by club members. Reports made of weekend ski ing showed that a trip to Mt. Hood had been made by Mr. and Mrs. Mac Calvin, Glen Tucker, Harry Cameron, Harriet Smith and Les ter Rue. Plan Card Party WALDO HILLS The Willard Woman's club will sponsor a ben efit card party at the Waldo Hills club house Saturday night, pro ceeds to go to the WCTU Child ren's Farm home at Corvallls. The new hospital unit will be es pecially benefitted. Club mem bers will serve refreshments fol lowing cards. Turner PTA to See Play TURNER The PTA will meet Monday night in the school audi torium at 8 o'clock. A play, "Money Talks," will be put on by the local Christian Endeavor young people. There will also be special music and readings. Marion 4H Club Awards Are Made MARION Many students at Marlon school have earned high credits in 4H club work over a period of years. Lyons Man Called For Federal Jury LYONS Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Lewis went to Portland Monday morning, where they will spend several days with relatives. They were accompanied by R. A. Brown who was called there-to serve on the federal grand Jury. Clyde McRae went to Albany Monday morning to serve on the l inn county Jury. Mrs. Leora Stevens, Mrs. Mable Downing, Mrs. Elizabeth Westen- house went to Albany Saturday, where they attended the leaders meeting for the 4H club leaders. Amos Wheeler of Tillamook spent the last of the week in Lyons. Mrs. Wheeler and two little daughters, who had spent the last two weeks at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hu go Hallun, returned home with Wheeler, Saturday morning. Glenn O. Ireland Funeral Is Today MONMOUTH Glenn O. Ire land, 62, native of Monmouth and long time resident of Polk county, died Tuesday at his home in Crescent City, Calif. He was born on the old Ireland farm a mile south of here and attended the local schools, including Ore gon Normal. He married Harrl ette Brown of Portland, who sus- vives with two daughters, Mrs. Ann Hamilton, Eureka, Calif., and Glenetta, at home. Surviv ing also are three brothers, Clar ence of Brownsville; Fred of Eu gene, and Willard of Corvallis, and one sister, Mrs. Bessie Ham mell of Falls City. Graveside services will be held Friday at 1:30 at Fir Crest ceme tery here directed by the Smith Baun mortuary. The Rev. W, A. Elkins of Monmouth will officiate. James S. Kibbey Dies at Albany ALBANY James Samuel Kib bey, a resident of Oregon his en tire life, died at the Fisher Nurs ing home here, following an ill ness of several years. Kibbey was born September 11, 1866, on a farm near Rickreall in Polk county. He ia survived by his widow and niece. Funeral ar rangements, in charge of the Fort miller Funeral borne, will be an nounced later. Files for Sheriff STAYTON Albert Julian, Fox Valley farmer, has filed for re publican nomination for Linn county sheriff. Julian's slogan is Economical business administra tion and a dollar's worth of serv ice for a dollar." He has had 15 years of experience in this line of work, having served 10 years in i police duty and five years as sher iff in Oregon. He is an active grange member and various other j fraternal organizations.
