PAGE TWELVE The OREGON STATESMAN, Salem, Oregon, Sunday Morning, January 21, 1940 Uncertainty Reflected Rally Follows Early Decline Disposition of Grain Under Federal Loan I Question CHICAGO, Jan. iOHVA wheat price drop of a cent a bushel fol lowed by a rally which wiped out thla loss before the close today re flected trade uncertainty about disposition In the next seyeral weeks of larje quantities of 1938 and 1939 grain under government loan. Milder weather oter much of the grain belt also Induced some belling but buying credited to mills appeared on the downturn. Some traders were Inclined to look for Improved flour demand due to resumption of subsidy op erations in Pacific coast wheat and flour. Wheat closed unchanged to U cent lower compared with yester day, May I1.01H-U, July As of December 31 the com modity credit corporation and co operating banks throughout the wheat belt held as collateral on loans 161,05.53 bushels of wheat. The goTernment anaounced loans on 1938 grain due March 31, in volving about 3,500,000 bushels, would not be extended. Further more, it does not contemplate re newing 1939 wheat loans which mature April 30 except those In volving 23.000,000 bushels In cer tain states. According to Interpretation of ome traders, this would leave approximately 134.500,000 bu shels of 1939 wheat, which If this plan is followed must either be redeemed by producers or turned over to the government. Inasmuch as market prices are 20 cents a bushel or more above loan rates in most localities, more than enough to give producers a profit above loan levels, trade ex perts believe redemption of this wheat will take place. Wheat re possessed by farmers could be marketed or held, depending on market conditions and Individual circumstances. xauM am day iseo K. 8 :PO Brother Al Heifer Say: 8:15 Croes Country New. r -30 Stream of Grace. 8:00 Sunday Morning Meditation. 8 .30 American Wildlife. 9 :4 V Westt-rnaire.
