The check-up was prompted by the court's discov ery that an error in a road num ber operated to change the name of Crotsan creek road to Madrona avenue, when the change should have been applied to another thoroughfare. Should errors be found, the engineer will apply to the state highway department, which supplies all signs. RR Women Excepted The state welfare commission has no authority to regulate tbe employ ment of women working for rail roads engaged in interstate com merce, Attorney General I. H. YanWinkle ruled here Friday. The opinion was asked by Charles H. Gram, state labor commis sioner and executive secretary of the state welfare commission, who In a letter to VanWinkle. said the railroad brotherhoods contended that these women workers were aot subject to state, regulation. Officials Visit County Judge U. E. Reeder and County Com missioner William F. B. Chase of Klamath county stopped brief ly at the courthouse yesterday to call on members of the Marion county court. They were en route -to Eugene for the regular meet ing of the Oregon-California Land Grant association, of which their county is a members, after hav ing consulted with state highway commission officials in Portland. Will Take Exam Some 220 persons are signed up to take the civil service examination for rur- al mail carrier at the post office today. Two sessions, one in the morning and the other in the af- ternoon, will be held to accomo date the unusually large numher of applicants. Morse to alter a duplex dwelling at 1805 Lee street, $125. Skipworth Assigned Chief Justice Rand of the state supreme court Friday assigned Circuit Judge G. F. Skipworth of Eugene to hold court in Multnomah coun ty for two weeks. Judge Skip worth is one of the oldest circuit judges in Oregon, based on length of service. Record Clean There were no fatalities in Oregon due to indus trial accidents during the week ending January 11, the state in dustrial accident commission re ported Friday. There were 616 accidents reported to the commis sion. To Confer Degree A degree team from Pacific lodge. AF&AM, will confer the third degree at McMInnvIlle Tuesday night. Radio Stolen Viola H e y n e, 581 North Church street, report ed to police yesterday that her apartment was entered sometime between December 28 and Jan uary 8 and a small radio stolen. The apartment of Marion Wyman, across the hall, was entered about January 1 and police believe the same person prowled both the rooms. Clinic Held at Silrerton Miss Margaret McAlpine arranged the clinic held at Silverton Friday morning by the Marion county de partment of health. Thirty-two children were examined and four were found to be free from de fects. Over half of the 32 suffered from teeth defects. Thirteen had been vaccinated and immunized. Drugs Stolen Dr. John Ram age reported to police yesterday that 10 14 grains of morphine and 6 1-2 grains of codine were stolen from his car while it was parked in front of the Deaconess hospital January 8. McMahan yester day granted an order continuing the trial of state vs. Adam Engel until some date after a necessary defense witness returns In Feb ruary upon the motion tiled Thursday of Ony O. Smith, de fense attorney. The jndge gave further orders not to call tbe Jury until Thurs dsy of next week. In spite of the fact that the district attorney sought to make next Monday, or iginally set for the Engel trial, the date for hearing the case of state vs. Roy S. Melson. county commissioner under Indictment for driving while Intoxicated. Judge McMahan stated yester day that he had previously an nounced his intention of disquali fying himself from bearing the Melson case, and that since no special judge has been appointed by the supreme court to hear the trial, no reason existed to sum mon the Jury. Financial report showed that 112,416.54 was expended during the year, with $1308 go ing for mission and benevolent purposes.
