The Lebanon American Legion oat entertained the auxiliary Tuesday night with a turkey dln er and program. Albert Wilson as chairman of the dinner com mittee, and Mrs. Albert . Simons f the program. Santa made one f his popular appearances and litriouted gifts. On the program was a trio of singers, Nancy Kirk Patrick. Joan Schenk and Char lotte Bohle. Nancy Klrkpatrick sans; , several solos. Chet Warner gave readings appropriate to , Christmas and everyone joined in a community s:ng around the din rag table. Business meetings of both organisations followed the program. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Weeks en tertained at a dinner party for Mr. Weeks' sister. Miss Lucille Weeks. Monday night. Eight guests were present. Francis Llndeman has gone t Medford to work for the eipress company during the holiday rush, lie will be back Christmas day. Mrs; C. II. Llndeman read a paper on flowers of the Bible at the Lebanon garden club's meet ing and Christmas party Monday night. The meeting was held at the home of Mrs. C. E. Shimanek. The club decided to buy a flower arranging book. J. Gregory Con ways' Flowers East-West, to be eventually put on the city lib rary's shelves. Tables with Christ mas centerpieces were arranged br Mrs. Roy Gardner and Mrs. Joel C. Mayer. After the business meeting and program, gifts were exchanged. Two Programs Are Planned by Church STAYTON The Methodist church in Btayton will present a morning and night program next Sunday, Christmas eve. The morning' program will be presented by the primary depart ment beginning at 10:60. and will Include an exercise by the following: Charles Morgan, Ber Bice Raph, Jerry Boyers, Shlrley lou. Billy Hewitt. Nelda Harold, Nina Harold. Lowell Nightingale; song. "Away In a Manger," pri mary pupils; recitation, Loel Wright; recitation. Waconda Women Will Have Party WACONDA The annual Christmas meeting of the Wa conda Community club was held Wednesday, at the home of Mrs. Ward Lundy In Fairfield. This was an all-day session with a covered-dish 1 o'clock din ner. Gifts weer exchanged. The Waconda school Christmas program will be held Thursday at the school house and not Friday as formerly announced. Dldridge school will present their program the same .night. Visit at Tacoma During Holidays SALEM HEIGHTS Mr. and Mrs. Emerson Hammer and Mr. and Mrs. George Wlllson will go to Tacoma to spend Christmas with Mr. and Mrs. Lester Luca vlch, formerly Georgella Wilson. On their return trip they will vi sit Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Hammer at Seattle, and with Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Campbell of Portland. Mrs. Ruth Chapman and Mrs. C. E. Forbls went to Portland Sunday. Mrs. Chapman will visit there while Mrs. Forbls will join o sisters and attend a pre- Christmas dinner with their par ents at Vancouver, Wash. They will return la time for Chistmas dinners at their own homes. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Baughman and family of Tacoma will be Christmas guests at his sister's home, the John Hoveys. Operetta Included In School Program SALEM HEIGHTS The Salem Heights school program will be given Thursday at 8 o'clock at the Community nail. The program will consist of a violin solo by Phillip Blankenship, a number by the school harmon ica band, directed by Mrs. Char lotte-Jones, and the operetta, Susannas Christmas Auction." School will be out early Friday. " 255 N. liberty Next to Power Co. 1 OPEN Perfection Sidewalk, Curb Work Bids Given DALLAS At a meeting of the Dallas city council Monday night bios were opened for the $S,7S3.79 bond issue for sidewalk and curb Improvement with Bak er, Fordyce and Tucker-of Port land as the successful bidders, They offered $100.08 per value per $100, with an Interest rate of 2 per cent on the entire Is sue. Two other bids were received, both of which were slightly above par with an Interest rate of 2U per cent. Beer license applications to the state liquor commission made by C. L. Crlder, W. D. Collins and Walter Earl Baker were approved by the council. On second reading an ordinance was passed by the council regu lating the parking of trucks or automobiles with trailers that project more than 19 feet from the curb. Such vehicles are pro hibited from parking more than 15 consecutive minutes on Main street from Academy to Washing ton, on Mill street from Church to Jefferson and on Court street between Church and Jefferson. The ordinance carried an emerg ency clause and became Immedi ately effective. Barn, Hay Lost In Lebanon Fire LEBANON A large, well- filled barn on tne Earl Shackman place In the McDowell district burned to the ground Monday night, with the loss of two cows, the family dog, all the hay and some fe$d. The place was rented to Angus Lefler, who was in the barn doing chores when the fire started. He saved most of his stock and most of his grain. The dog was asleep In the mow when the fire started. In about SO minutes the barn was completely gone and neighbors stood helplessly around, unable to check the flames. The fire Is thought to have started from the lantern hanging on the wall, placed there by Lef ler to enable him to do his chores. An operetta, "The Whole World's Christmas Tree" will be Siren by the upper grades. The cast : includes Dorine Dudley, Wayne Ault, Russell Hicks, Bev erly Jean Pattlson, Kenneth Mun-son,- Dale Van Loanen, Ruth Snyder, Colleen Hansen, Raymond Gotehall. Leslie Polrel, George Litchfield. Bobby Wagers. Lynn Barker. Gary Keppenger, Bill and Katie .Durham, Hazel and Edna Munson. . Gloria and Bar bara McClintock, Norma Jean Van Loanen, Sylvia La Valley, Blanch Davis, Arlene Framm and Robert Bartruff. Seme special music was composed for this operetta by Felix French of Salem. Robert Bartruff, head of the upper grades citizenship organi sation will bring greetings from the ! school and report on the work of the Junior Red Cross and results of bangle pin sales. The primary grades will pre sent a song "Santa Clans," a play, "The Spirit of the Christmas Trees," with a cast of James Mad doz, Donald Bassett, Gene Sco fleld, Elvin Goode, Wade Carter, Glen Wagers, Mary Hanson, Keith Dodge, Walter Durham, Patsey Keppenger, Arlyne Hilfiker, Billy Munson and Barbara McClintock. Play, "Little Last Doll," has characters, Magdalene Stahl, Joyce Kuenxi, Joan Scharf, Mary Hanson, Tommy Clark, Jimmy Munson, Murray Keppenger. Don Case -and jimmy Le Valley. "Christmas,' will be given by Don Case, Dan Durham, Stanley Larson, Bobby Kavarlck, Murray Keppenger, Jimmy Munson, Tom my Clark, Wayne Goode and Magdalene Stahl. VanCleave Was Son Of Early Pioneers HAZEL GREEN In the death this week of A. T. Van Cleave the community has lost a good neighbor and kind friend. He was a son of John and El len Brombaugh Van Cleave, both members of an 1865 wagon train from Iowa. Mr. and Mrs. Van Cleave and baby son, Alvin, moved from eastern Oregon to this dis trict in 1898, making their home here since, except a few years in Redding, Calif. . Van Cleave, a successful fruit grower, has added much to mak ing the district known In this line. Santa Claus Will Come to Program FALLS CITY The community Christmas program and donation to the grade school hot lunches will be held In the grange hall Thursday night. A Christmas playlet by the grade school pupils will be one of the main features of the enter tainment. Santa Claus will arrive with his usual ' bag of treats for the young people.
