G. McClaughry home . Officers for next year were elected as follows: president, Ru ben Boebra: rice-president, Joe Rents; secretary-treasurer, Mrs. P. J. Ross. Nine tables of domi noes were in play. Guests included Mr. and Mrs. Harry Boehm, Mr. and Mrs. Har ry Lovre, Mr. and Mrs. Harey Aker, Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Leedy. Mr. and Mrs. Willard Aker. Mr. and Mrs. Ruben Boehm, Mr. and Mrs. Joa Birr, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Rents, Mr. and Mrs. Orin Lowery, Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Rassmussen, Mr. and Mrs. Horace Bibby, Mr. and Mrs. W. R. Daugherty, Mr. and Mrs. Elmer McClaughry, Mr. and Mrs. P. J. Russ, Mr. and Mrs. Royce and daughter of Woodburn, Tiliie and LaReva Isham of Sa lem, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Wein man, Constance Weinman, and Jack Power. Santa Claus distributed gifts to each one present. The January meeting will be at the Orin Low ery home. Evelyn Torvend Will Head Group SILVERTON Evelyn Tor Tend was elected president of the Lutheran Daughters of Reforma tion at the Tuesday night meeting at whicli Miss Lncile Tschants was hostess. Other officers elect ed are vice-president, Eunice Tor Tend; secretary, Lucile Tschantz; treasurer, Oriet Moen; historian, Althea Meyer; reporter, Dorothy Haugen. This was also the regular Christmas party of the group and an exchange of gifts in the form cf a treasure hunt was held fol lowing the business session. During the program hour group singing of Christmas carols was held; Miss Elizabeth Torvend led In devotions and the month's to pic "Joy in Victory." Miss Vernice Tollesfrud read a Christmas story. I A sum of money was voted to the Jewish mission, Shishmoref mission, and the general church budget, the two projects of the L. D. R. for 1939. Funeral March 4 r j This la pern. pa one of the longest funeral marches ever held. It is from Alicante, on the Mediter ranean, to El Escorial, northwest of Madrid, Spain, a distance at 284 miles. The marchers carry the body of Primo De Rivera, founder of the Falange Espanols, Spanish Fascist party, for final burial. De Rivera was executed by a Republican firing: squad In 1936. Generalissimo Francisco Franco delivered the funeral or ! tlon. Czech-American Group to Meet SCIO Local members of the Czech-American alliance will be addressed Friday night, December 16, at ScIo ZCBJ hall by Josef Jelinek, Los Angeles lodge or ganizer, who will speak in Czech. The public is invited. About 50 per cent of the population of Scio and surrounding area is of Czech birth or descent, a large percent age of the former being natural ized US citizens. Regular meeting of Sclo tem ple of Pythian Sisters Wednesday night at the K.P.-Masonic hall here was preceded by a dinner, and a social hour followed the business meeting. Zink Exchanges Scio Property SCIO Nonnie Zink has ex changed his 65-acre farm proper ty in the Hungry Hill district southwest of Scio for an irrigated 40 acres five miles east of Bend. The family has virtually complet ed moving to the new property, Zink having disposed of most of his livestock here. He was a range man in the eastern Oregon coun try for a number of years before coming to Scio. 1 C. F. Dawson of Scio has ex changed his town property here for a tract near Bend adjoining that of Zink. The Dawsons plan to remain in Scio for. a time, how ever, but may move to Albaay, where he is employed as a car penter, later this year. J. F. Hoofset is the new owner of the farm and city lands In volved In the deal. He plans to move to the former Zink farm, and will rent or sell4 the town property, it is said. Mr. and Mrs. Soderholm have returned from an extended tour through Canada, North Dakota and Kansas. f - - ' ; - ; ; : j u 1 I Berlin Church Nearing Completion LEBANON The Berlin Com munity church Is nearing comple tion, although it will not be done by Christmas, as was hoped. Started last spring on land do nated by John Burrell, all the la bor and all the materials have been donated. The work was de layed when an underground spring gushed forth when' the basement was being dug for the furnace.
