rieties of lotus or legume erop
seeds ended in Scotland where
seeds were found which adapted
themselves to western Oregon
counties in tests conducted last
summer.
The Scottish seeds provided pas.

and quality, despite varying soil
and weather conditions. However,
shipments from Scotland have
been made difficult by war, and
Howell said it was not known
when substantial amounts of seed
would be available.

Extend Acreage
Because this year's pack ol
beans has been virtually closed
out, the Blue Lake Producers
cooperative is planning to go back
to a full 100 per cent acreage In!
bean planting next year, O. 13.
Snider, manager of the plant in)
West Salem, announced yesterday.
Acreage was reduced 30 per

a large 1938 carryover.
The cooperative expects to
wind up its season by Saturday
night, when the last of the corn
pack will be finished. This year
was the first year corn has been

was curtailed by drought condl
tions when the crop was develop
