The candidates include girls from In dependence. . Monmouth,. : Salem and Dallas, and John E. Black, contest director, stated that t number of other girls from bath Independence . and . . neighboring cities are yet to be entered. ,v In a bulletin issued Wednesday; -'fiesta headquarters listed the fol lowing girls: ' - Martha Jean Kurre, 18, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. George Kurre of Dallas. Button Sale Begins Sale of buttons began in Inde pendence Tuesday and was re ported to be heartily welcomed. The buttons are distinctive this year in that they bear a picture of a hop leaf and hop and are declared to be excellent advertis ing for the. Independence area : and its million dollar industry. - The Hop Bowl organization heldi its regular meeting Monday and .-discussed details of the pro gram for the fiesta. It has been decided that the buttons will be the only admission charged at the Thursday and Friday evening per formances, the Saturday after noon and Saturday midnight mati nee shows. Mr. Black stated that the contest, being barely started. Is still open to any girl wishing to enter. A list o the sponsors of the girls is expected to be announced In the near future. , Champ Gunner : Visits Eldriedge ELDRIEDGE Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Nusom and daughter, Shev erly, of Clatskanie, i accompanied by Miss Violet Bakkinsen of As toria, visited relatives here, this week. They will remain "in Sa lem during the trapsboot finals. Miss Nusom is Oregon's champion woman trapshooter. The Nusoms recently returned from San .Francisco and the world's fair. Church Opens Camp Meeting Woodburn Host to 39th Church of God Event at Outdoor Session WOODBURN The; 3 9th an nual Oregon state , camp meeting of the Church of God began Thursday at 7 : 4 5 p. m. at the Church of God 'campgrounds one- half mile north of town. ; J The meetings will be from July 20 to July SO Inclusive. The grounds which have an area of about 10 acres has b e e n vlry much improved since last year.' A new missionary building has been erected as well as other mi nor changes. This new building will . be dedicated Snnday, July 23, at 1:30 p. m. Rev. Adam W. Miller, a returned missionary from Japan, secretary of the mis sionary board of the Church 'of God and president of the Inter national Christian Crusaders, Is to give the dedicatory address. . About 500 camp every year on the grounds as well as others who drive over for the day or evening. Some will come from other Btates as delegates. The committees in charge of the meeting for this year are: Program committee, W. M. Dono- hew, chairman, U. G. Clark, and B. H. Arendt, secretary: minis ters' meeting, E. H. Arendt, chair man, and A. George superintendent ot the .Stayton schools for the past five years, who has accepted the superintend ence of Bend's three grade schools, junior and senior high school with a staff of 76 teachers, will leave with Mrs. George and two sons, Norman . and Gordon, soon.
