A; Kells, executive sec retary of the Salem TMCA, who Friday returned from an exten sive eastern and southern swing of the United States. Kells, who went east by train via Los Angeles and the southern route and who drove an automo bile back from Detroit, attended a meeting of community chest exec utives of the Pacific coast at Oak land, Calif., the Presbyterian gen eral assembly in Cleveland, Ohio, a meeting of the general board of YMCA's national council at Buf falo, N.Y., and the national con vention of TMCA executive chair men at Toronto, Canada. He spent a day in Boston and a day in New York, visiting tne national offices of the TMCA and community chest. Stone. 70, who died In Portland Monday, was recalled by numerous Salem friends as one who. during his 29 years of work In the organization, had an active oart In the early growth of the Salem YMCA. According to C. A. Kells. exec utive secretary of the S a 1 e m YMCA, Stone began YMCA work at the age of 22, serving in Texas and Kansas before coming . to Portland in 1816.
