We believe in national defense
to avoid war," said the prominent
veteran. "And we believe that an
other way to avoid war Is to take
the profits out ot It. Revelations
in congress in the last 10 years
have shown that 23,000 new mil
lionaires were created by the
great war, and we know about
shipyard workers who were paid
from $25 to $50 a day and. wore
silk shirts; We want no more such
profiteers. We would tag industry,
commerce and labor to the point
that war profits would be held to
normal profits. This would not
only cut down the profiteering
but would provide the government
with the necessary revenue to
wage war.?
