Petition of a number of resi dents 'living outside the official limits to the south, of the city for extension of city water was voted down by the council. Peti tioners had agreed to Install their own pipes 'rom the end of the city main. Payments for grading of city streets bad been made by ell property owners with the excep tion of two, on West street and four on Pentland avenue, the re- eorder stated. Church Built Near Aurora 87 Years Ago Rededicated to Methodist Work AURORA One of the churches oi the pioneer days of Oregon still stands, the old Rock Creek Methodist church, which was rededicated in services Sunday. Built in 1852 with lumber hauled to the ground by ox teams, driven by Eb Boy ington and Clark McCowan, it was one of the first three Methodist churches in this state, although that was seven years before Oregon was admitted O to the anion. The benches In this church were hand made in 185 and show a smooth hewed surface hard to ex cel by modern methods. The or gan was; brought from Germany by members of the Aurora colony and was one of the finest In this territory tor many years. Services were held In this build ing until 120. At this time most of the congregation had moved or passed away.1 It yas 85 yews ago that the first Methodist doc trine was taught in this church. C. O.'Boylngton, who came to Oregon in 1847, donated the land on which the church stands and also the cemetery in which son, Alvie, was the first person to be Interred. Mrs. Boyington was a sister of Dr. Truman Bonney of the Bonney clan. This church stood unlocked for many years, but the old Bible and gospel hymna song books are still Intact. - Two Officers Installed At Amity Chapter Meet AMITY At the regular meet ing of Amity chapter OES Monday night, Mrs. Julia Latimer and Mrs. Evelyn M. Umphlette were in stalled as associate matron and Ruth, respectively. The worthy matron, Mrs. Elisabeth Thomas, was installing .officer. A Bocial hour was enjoyed with Mrs. Mamie Randall of Portland, a former member, giving an in spiring talk. The attendance was larger than It has been for sever al months. Norris against Marion county which is Bet fcr trial Monday, January 16. The case was originally filed in Marion county but was later transferred to Polk county. The plaintiff is suing for $2000 carnages lor injuries wtich re sulted from an automobile acci dent on the Salem-Wheatland ferry roads, on the cast side of the Willamette river six miles north of Salem, which took place on August 13, 1933. Mrs. Norris alleges that the Marion county road in this par ticular place was not fit or suit able for public travel, and charges the county with careless ness in this matter. She alleges that as a result of this the car in which she was a guest on August 13, 1933, was thrown out of control and turned over. vith the plaintiff beinz severely bruised and injured. She ask for f2000 damages and for costs and disbursements. Roy Hewitt of Salem and Oscar Hayter of Dallas are attorneys for the plaintiff. The PTA meeting was well attended Monday night, with the major part of the program fur nished by a erouo of 12 from the Salem blind school, with Mr. Sanders, teacher, giving a talk concerning the school. A machine demonstration was given hv a small pupil. A short playlet was well received. Mrs. Gertrude Hennies and iMith Schifferer of Cloverdale gave a vocal duet with Dorothy Schifferer piano accompanist. Turner school orchestra furnished music and refreshments were served.
