Baked Ham Served On Holidays by Many Families Ham is the traditional holiday meat in many families, and this meat like others, is treated far differently than it was few years ago. Most good hams do not require par-boiling, but if you're a cook who still clings to that me thod of cooking, merely follow with this baking method. Modern hams are cured differ ently than they were in the, last generation, packers preparing the cure so mild that it seems unnec essary to remove any of the good flavor by boiling. In baking a whole ham it is im portant that the oven tempera ture be low. An oven temperature of 300 degrees is recommended for best results. Place the ham, fat side np, on a rack in an open roasting pan, and let bake at the low temperature until done. About 45 minutes before serving, remove the ham from the oven and remove the rind, if this was not done at the market. Decorate as desired. Return to the oven to finish baking and brown.. Decoration Suggestions Simmer thin slices of orange in a syrup until glazed. Arrange on whole ham. Stick centers of orange slices with whole cloves. Stick ham with whole cloves which spell the word, Merry Christmas diagonally across ham. Rub with brown sugar which has been mixed with a little mustard and moistened with ham drip pings. Spread ham with orange marm alade. Garnish with orange cups filled with mashed sweet potatoes and topped with a marshmallow. Slice maraschino cherries into 1 cup of strained honey and pour over ham. Baste ham during the last half hour with maple syrup. Spread ham with currant or grape Jelly and return to oven to glaze and brown. Apricot Sauce Will Top Bread Puddinj 5 Apricot sauce will be an excel lent topping for good old bread pudding, for lemon cornstarch pudding or for plan ; one-egg cake that's to be used as a simple pre Christmas dessert. APRICOT SArCE Vt cup sugar cup water 1 can strained apricotr 1 tablespoon lemon juice Boil sugar and water 10 min utes, add fruit, bring to boil, add lemon. Chill. Serve over puddings.
