Martin, who died at the Deaconess hospital early Tuesday morning. Mr. Martin lived here a. few months, moving to West Salem one month ago. Mrs. O. O. Lacy was called to Redmond to be" with Mrs. Theo dore Lacy, who is very ill. A surprise party was held at the Tony Swaboda home Saturday eve ning in honor of Mrs. Swoboda's birthday. Ad ams, for eight years superinten dent of Corvallis schools, will he the new superintendent of Silver ton schools, according to an nouncement made here Thursday morning. He will succeed Robert Goetz, resigned superintendent of Silverton schools for 15 years. Adams comes here at the same salary Goetz is getting, 13000. Adams, 46 was married in 1918 to Alice Christenson of New berg and is the father of two boys, Harold Adams, jr., a junior high student, and Richard Adams, 13, a ninth grader. He was a commis sioned officer, an Ensign in the United States navy during the World War. Quart jar attle YMCA for a year directly following the war. He was graduated from the Bellinghamhlgh school and Lin field college at McMinnvllle. In 1920 and 1921 be taught math ematics and coached at the Carter county high school at Ekalaka, Montana. During the next three years he was principal of the high school at Payette, Idaho. Has Master's Degree From 1925 to 1928 he attended the University of Idaho at Mos cow where he received his mas ter's degree in science with edu cation major. While working for his master's degree he was super intendent of schools at Elk River, Idaho. In 1928 he went to Corvallis as principal of the Corvallis high school and in July, 1930, he was made superintendent of the Cor vallis schools. He has done sum mer work toward his doctor's de gree. Active in Civic Work At Corvallis he has been a member of the chamber of com merce and of the Rotary club. He has served at various times as di rector member of the State col lege YMCA. was a member of the PTA council, and was president of the state association in 1935 and is now on the committee for the reconstruction of the curriculum and also on the legislative committee. For two years Adams was Americanization chairman of the Corvallis American Legion post. At present he is consultant of the education policies commission of the National Education associa tion. He has been adviser of the Boy Scouts, Corvallis, for three years and adviser of school of broadcasts of radio KOAC. Ten years ago the warrant and bonded indebtedness of the Cor vallis district was $230,000. In June of this year the total debt of the Corvallis school district will not exceed $185,009, though a new $320,000 senior high school plant has been constructed and the old senior high school build ing remodeled into a workable junior high school building. Cur riculum advancement has been made there in Adams' administra tion. Goetz Has Fine Record Supt. Goetz, who has served the snverton district for 15 years with marked success as an execu tlve as well as an educator, Is not yet ready to announce his future plans. Goetz came here from Klamath Falls. Locally, he has been active In civic and welfare work, a member of the chamber of commerce. Rotary and Silver ton Golf club. Marked changes have been made In the Silverton schools un der the management of Supt. Goets. The high school enroll ment has grown from 200 to 450. The junior high school, first in stltuted under his direction, has grown tremendously, now having 35 u students. The Silverton schools now hold an enviable record throughout the state. They are second to none in the quality of work, according to D. A. Emerson, Inspector of the state education office, on a recent visit here. The high rating la eon- sldered an especially high compll mem to Mr. Goetz, who has car ried on for many years hampered by the lack of room. Supt. Goets has been active In state and county educational clr cles and in 1931 he occupied a place on the teaching staff of Ore gon state college.
