Sept. 28-(!p)-Company 2106, civilian conserva tion corps, one of the top-notch CCC units in the United States, has received a surprise order to demobilize. , The company, composed of young men from Connecticut, ad dressed a letter to Governor Wil bur L. Cross of that state with mention of some of the company's accomplishments. Champion Fire Fighters About 500 Connecticut men, in cluding replacements, have passed through the camp since October 28, 1935, while in Oregon, "they were the champion fire fighting company of 32 camps, having been able to assemble food, clothing. equipment and load 'their trucks for a 48-hour fight without fur ther replenishments. Only one of the 500 was ar rested, and that for a trifling of fense, says the letter. They were six-tenths per cent above normal in an English usage and intelli gence test. They average 21 years old and 10th grade schooling. Truck Drivers to Get Higher Wages An increased wage scale foi local and Salem-Portland "line" truck drivers was in the making here yesterday as Al Banks, Teamsters union business agent, announced the union had agreed to a new scale and he under stood the employers' representa tives had said they would sign the new contract Day Hayes, representative of the Motor Ve hicle Owners association, employer-organization, was out of the city and could not be reach ed for a statement. Banks said the new scale would be retroactive to September 1, when the past year's contract ex pired It provides for an increase, of 75 cents per day for line haul ers and one of 50 cents per day for local pickup and delivery drivers. Under the new scale the former would receive $5.25 to $7,775 a day, according to the type of truck operated, and the latter, $5.25. There were also minor changes in working ' con ditions, Banks added.
