Miss Genevieve Brown of Boze man, Montana, will serve as an instructor in music an", supervisor of music for the Monmouth train ing school for the coming year during the leave of absence of Miss Grace Maurie Mitchell who is to study for her master's de gree. Miss Brown has been super St. visor of music for several years in Bozeman and secured the bachelor's degree at the Mac Phail School of Music. Minneap oils, Minn , and the degree of master of music from the Amer lean Conservatory of Music at Chicago. Miss Ida Mae Smith has secur ed a leave of absence for a year to study for her master's degree at Teachers college, Columbia uni versity. New York. Serving in her place as supervisor of primary ed ucation will be Miss LaVada Reed wh6, for the past year, was the first grade supervisor in the Mon mouth training school. Miss Ellen Jane Potter of Mon rovia, Calif., has been elected to take the place of Mrs. Hilda Top Grant, who resigned at the close of the summer quarter. Miss Pot ter secured her master's degree from the University of Oregon in June of this year. She will serve as Instructor in physical educa tion and will supervise the phys ical education in the Monmouth training school. Miss Eloise Buck returns to the department of English as assist ant professor after a year's leave of absence. Mrs. Beulah S. Thorn ton, another member of the Eng lish .department, returned to the Normal school for the last half of the summer session after having been on leave for 4Vi months to secure her master's degree at the Cniversity of Oregon- Professor H. E. Inlow, formerly president of the Eastern Oregon Normal school, has been added to the staff to serve as professor of history and sociology and to de vote part of his time to the gen eral extension .division in Port land. O. C. Christensen, assistant pro fessor of history and sociology, who has been on leave this sum mer completing the work for his master's degree at the University of Oregon, returns to his duties next week, as does Miss Ann O'Neill who has been traveling In Europe during the summer. Rich ard L. Averill, who served as a substitute instructor for the spring and summer quarters, has returned to his position in the Pendleton high school. Miss Eleanore Gill began her duties July 1 as supervisor of health In the place of Miss Aileen Dyer, who resigned-recently after five years of service to make her home in Portland. Miss Gill is a graduate of a normal school and also of the public health nursing course at the University of Oregon Medical School. At the Monmouth training school Miss Lucile Wall returns to the position of supervisor of teach ing in the first grade after a year's leave of absence during which she secured her master's degree at Oregon State college. Miss Eleanor Leonard, who last year was on the staff at the In dependence school, will be the su pervisor in the fourth grade- Miss Neva Dallas will have the fifth grade, and Miss Dora Scheffskey, the sixth grade. Previously, Miss Dallas and Miss Scheffskey have handled all three grades. Other members of the Monmouth train ing school staff are: Miss Florence Beardsley, eighth grade and prin cipal; Mrs. Phebe Butler Cox, seventh grade; Miss Martha Tay lor, third grade; Miss Ruth Mc- Clure, Becond grade. Normal School Places Majority of Graduates MONMOUTH The Oregon Normal School Illflrpmpnt hnraaii reports that out of 235 gradu ates of this past year, 86 per cent have been placed in teach ing positions. By the time all schools are opened at the end of September, it is expected that nearly all of the 235 graduates win be placed. Better salaries will be paid for the coming year man were paid last year. Very few teachers will receive the minimum of $75 a month, as salaries in the rural schools are now ranging from $85 to $135 a monin. This year's graduates are go ing into practically every county in the state and into all types of schools, from the one-teacher rural school to those districts of the first class. - The placement of graduates last year was 99 per cent of a class of 304.
