Resided 27 Years At Scotts Mills j " ' ' " Funeral Held for Mrs. Al bert Rich; Prune Pick ! ing Gets Started SCOTTS MILLS Funeral ser vices were held here in the Chris tian church Tuesday for Mrs. Al bert Rich, a resident of this com munity for 27. years. Mrs. Rich passed away Saturday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. H.j Dixon ot Portland, w i t h whom she has been staying since her illness became serious eaily last spring. She was 75 years old. With- her husband and family Mrs. Rich came to this eommun ityi from South Dakota In 1910 She is survived by her widower ana inree children, Mrs. H. S. Nicholson. Edgar is having an en forced vacation due to a freak ac cident which "occurred when a loaded gun fell to the floor of the car he was driving and discharg ed, bullet going through his arm just below the elbow. The wound is healing nicely and he expects to be back to work in a few days- Plan for Convention Of Linn Odd ! Fellows SCIO The semi-annual dis trict convention of Linn county Odd Fellows, to be held In Oc tober, soon will be under way. according to J. M. Bennett of Albany, who succeeds the late Fred Weatherford of Albany as secretary of the convention. Seventy-five to 100 members, of Ihe order usually attend association meetings, of which the last was held at Jefferson April 10. Scioans plan to attend the wa ter carnival at Jefferson Septem ber 23, 24. 25 and 26. Henry Krosman of this city is a candi date for King Neptune. Eight Said Killed In Airliner Crash LIMA, Peru, Sept. 16--Eight persons were reported killed to night in the crash of an airliner, operated by ..the Faucett Airlines, forty miles south of Lima'. The plane, long overdue" here, had encountered heavy fogs all along its route along the west coast of South America. The headquarters of Elmer J. Faucett, head of the private com pany operating the plane, had few details. The total was about $1,500. The winnings consisted of a large number of championships and of a' large number of champion ships and of. first and seconds. The grand champion bird in the poultry show was a Rhode Island, Red cockerel entered by Wayne Hanna of Independence. The outstanding turkey was a torn entered by Henry Domes of McCoy. Champions were plenti ful in the sheep and goat divi sions for Polk county exhibitors, as both the champion ewe . and ram In the Romney Marsh breed of sheep were from this county. The champion Southdown ewe, and the champion long-haired Angora doe and champion buck In the short-haired Angora goat division were all from Polk coun ty. A number of first prizes were collected in the dairy division, upholding the reputation that Polk county has log been fam ous for its - Jersey cattle. In the 4H club work, Clarence Primus was selected as the most outstanding senior club member and received a $25 prize from the Oregon Bankers" association. Albert Riney, a Polk county 4H club member, won first place on his Hereford heifer. Donald Gregg won third on his junior heifer In-, a class of 2$ animals. Bob Lorence won sec ond place in the- sheep show manship division while Robert Gregg won fifth in a class of 38 animals In the Jersey' showman ship contest. Numerous other prizes were taken by Polk county 4H club- members. Practically the entire 4H club of Mrs. HJC Vermilyea! had exhibits at -the-state fair. " .
