Fitzgerald, Well-Known Physician, Passes at Woodburn ' WOODBURX Dr. Peter H. Fitzgerald. 79. for many year a well known doctor in Oregon, passed away at 556 Third street Tuesday evening at 8:80 o'clock. He is surrired by his lister. Miss Mary Hershberger; niece, Mary Scollard, and two nephews. Cecil and Edwin Scollard. Funeral services will be held at St. Luke's Catholic church Friday at 9 a. m. Interment in St. Luke's cemetery with Beeca-ler-O'Hair mortuary in charge. Dr. Fitzgerald attended Wil- rlamette university and Portland Medical college and was a prac ticing physician in eastern Ore gon for the Umatilla Indian res ervation. For thirty years he operated a drug store and prac ticed medicine at Gervals. He studied extensively in Ber lin and Vienna, leaving Europe in 1914 and located in England. He was active In work of the state board of health, especially daring the influenza epidemic of 1918. He also served as superintend ent of the state tuberculosis hos pital for three years. Some children are still In the hop and prune work. Mrs. Agnes Booth, principal and teacher of 7th and 8th grades; Mrs. Elizabeth Smith, 5 th and Cth; Mrs. Charlotte Jones, 3rd and 4th; Miss Mar garet Barquist, 1st and 2nd. Miss Barquist has enrolled 41. She will teach the first grade in the forenoon and the 2nd in the p. m.. beginning next week. Chester F. Skelton Is the Jan. itor. Mountain View's y Stock Club Does Well, State Fair MOUNTAIN VIEW Members of the local boys' 4H stock elub scored as follows at the state fair: Karl Dean Withers, third on pen of Berkshire hogs; Lyle Knower, second and sixth on three Jersey cows. Knower scored three firsts and a second oa this trio at the Polk county fair. James S. Smart, leader of the 4H group, and a Fu ture Farmer, placed with a second and two thirds on his pea of Hampshire hogs. Shirley Rose Adams, the only 4H girl clubber to score, placed second on oven baked biscuits. She had placed first on the same entry at the Polk county fair. COFFEE Wilma Spence to ' Study, New York ALBANY Miss Wilma Spence of Albany left Monday for New York City where she will enter Columbia university to t a k e special work to fit herself for a deanship. Miss Spence has taught for the past several years in the Albany schools and has been granted a year's leave of absence by the school board. Accompanying Miss Spence east was Miss Loretta Fisher of Salem. Miss Fisher, H is understood, will also enter Columbia to take ad vanced work in library work. Miss Fisher is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hugh. Fisher of Salem, formerly of Albany. . Dan Brenneman, clerk of the district, made the announcement today. Members of the committee In clude directors, V. L. Calavan, chairman, D., E. Nebergall, R. L. Burkhart, C. E. Spence and A. Q. Senders and the following lay members, A. B. Coates, Max Brown, Wallace C. Eakin, Luke Harrison and Fred Forster. Visitor at Airlie Departs for Home AIRLIE Mrs. Ruth Yocum who has been a guest of Mrs. Ann Wheeler this summer, re turned to her home in Califor nia Wednesday. Mr. and Mrs. Sam Hastings went to Lyons Tuesday for a visit at the home of their daugh ter, Mrs. L. E. Davis. The L. E. and Eben Davis families have purchased a farm In Toledo and are moving there immediately. Mrs. Jacob PlouB entertained with a birthday dinner Tuesday evening given for -her husband. Guests were members of the fam ily; 'Alyce, Lucille, Francis and Jacob, jr.; Miss Ruth Ploub, John Bucker and Mr. and Mrs. George Ploub. One of the most Important hearings yet held by the national labor relations board Is under way at Franklin borough school, near Johnatowx, Pa and the Ckmbria plant of Bethlehem Steel, where the board ta weighing charges of the C I. O. that Bethlehem violated the Wagner labor act. Mayor Daniel Shields of Johnstown, one of the witnesses summoned, was accused of aiding strikebreakers by C L O. witnesses. Change Dates for Parish Festival SUBLIMITY At a special meeting of the parish conaultors last Sunday it was decided to have the parish fall festival and dinner this year on October 10 and 11th, not on Thanksgiving day as in years past. The altar society also called a special meeting to arrange the differ ent committees. Mrs. Mike Benedict Is president of the so ciety. Tuesday, September 7th was enrollment day for St. Boniface school although some of the chil dren are still busy nl the hop yards and prune orchards. Indi cations are that St. Boniface school will have a larger enroll ment this year than ever. Thus far 20 have already enrolled for Junior high. Last Sunday afternoon Mrs. Ben Baker was taken to St. Vin cent's hospital in Portland. She has given much of her time car ing for the sick In the parish and now is on the sick list her self. Her many friends wish her a speedy recovery. Family Tours West Looking for Location SALEM HEIGHTS Mr. and Mrs. Luther Barnard , and son. Leon, who are touring the west seeking a new location, were vis itors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. P.' F. Stolzheise last week. They were interested in the production and climate of Marion county. Mrs. F. W. Burger and sons, Donald, Milton and Tommy,' spent a week in the mountains at Sis ters, returning Sunday. F. C.Stannard is erecting a dwelling house on the west side of his place- B. F. Heikes of Falls City and a former resident of Salem Heights was visiting at the Chap man and Stolzheise homes Sun day. Weekend guests at the P. F. Stolzheise home were Mr. and Mrs. Robert Peterson and family and Howard Sayre of Halsey, Ore., and Virgil M. Sayre and family of California.
