The program as announced for the regatta sponsored hy the Jeffer son Better Business, club will in clude "Timber" the surf riding dog, -Sons of Neptune, Portland aquatic stunts team, fireworks, shows, and concessions, street dancing every night, swimming races, boxing exhibitions and trapeze acts. Crowning ceremonies for King Neptune will be featured the first day. Local contestants for King Neptune are Harvey Thur ston, Roy Wickersham, and Clif ford Cole. Candidates from ad joining towns are Dr. Reid of Lebanon and Henry Krossman of Scio.. The one receiving the high est number of votes will be King, and the next three highest will be the King's jesters. The business houses will close one afternoon for two or three hours. Workers Repair Church Members and friends of the Evangelical church spent Labor day working- at the church and parsonage. The church was ren ovated throughout, and repair work done on the parsonage roof and porch. . A picnic dinner was enjoyed by the group. Hop , picking is about finished in the Theissen & Grenz yard, and the McKee. yard in this vi cinity. A fair crop is reported but some hops had to be left be cause of mold. Prune picking commenced Thursday morning in the Thomas orchard. The prunes will be picked green, and deliv ered to the Star cannery in Sa lem. Mr: and Mrs. Henry Smith and famil7 were guests at the home of Smith's parents, Mr. and Mrs. B. B. Smith. Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Tacoma Champion For Second Half WENATCHEE, Sept. 10(JP)- Wenatchee chiefs edged out YaK ima 6 to 5 with a spectacular ninth inning squeeze play here tonight to hand Tacoma the sec ond half Western International league title. In a thrilling contest that was tied three times, the first half winner eliminated the Pippins, who needed every game to nose out Tacoma for lague top. The Tigers will play the Chiefs in a seven game championship series that will start here soon.
