Captain Hoicard to Be Buried at Oregon Home ASHLAND, Oct. 28. - (JP) - The body or Capt. Charles H. Meeting Rickreall Resident Native of Valley, Most of Her Life Spent in Polk Pedestrian Injured Marie Amend, pedestrian, 101 Division street, was injured Tues day night when she was struck by an automobile driven by Jack Stewart, jr., 298 North 23d street, Stewart reported to city police yesterday. Mrs. Jennie Dempsey, a native of the Willamette valley, died Wednes day morning in the Dallas hos pital after a brief illness with heart trouble. i Nancy Jane Davis, youngest daughter of John Wesley a SI Mary Jane Davis, was born Octo ber 19, 1865, in the Chehalem valley three miles north of New berg, and spent her entire life with the exception of seven years in Oregon, the greater part in Polk county where the family moved in 1869, living in the Monmouth and Rickreall vicinities. She was married to Isaac A. Dempsey, July 27, 1887, in Prine ville, moving in 1889 to Rickre all where she has made her home practically, ever since. She was a member of Ruth chapter No. 32, O. E. S., at Hepp ner and of the Evangelical church and a charter member of the Rick reall Ladies Aid society. Three Children Survive She is survived by a daughter, Mary Adams; two sons. Harry A. of Rickreall and Lynn J. of Port land;; and vnine grandchildren. Mr. Dempsey died September 19, 1931, and one son died in infancy. Services will be conducted from the Bollman-Henkle chapel Friday at 2 p. m. and burial will be in the Dallas L.O. O. F. cemetery beside her husbapd. Naomi chapter, O. E. S. of Dallas will conduct the services at the cemetery. Mrs. Dempsey was a devoted mother, a good neighbor and ,, a true friend and will be.mjssed by the people of this community. Shortcuts Given Additional Funds PORTLAND, Oct. 28-(P)-WIth presiaent Roosevelt placing his signature on a program authoriz ing releases of $1,422,730, early completion of the Wilson river and Wolf creek short cuts to the sea were predicted today by E. J, Griffith, Oregon WPA admin istrator. Griffith said $258,991 would go to Wilson river and the remalnd er to Wolf creek. Politics Topic at Salem High Today Social science students will turn to politics at Salem high school today and give all parties to the present presidential campaign an airing before groups who will as semble each period fh the auditor ium, R. W. Tavenner, assistant principal, announced yesterday. No party will be slighted, he said. A student leader for each pe riod has 'been designated to start off discussions of politics. A group of eight or more students will sit with the leader on the auditorium platform and, for benefit of lis teners beyond the footlights, will carry on a panel type discussion of the merits of the various party principles and candidates. "I don t know how this form of activity will work out when direct ed toward politics," T a t e h n er said. "But last year it worked very well when we discussed safety on the highways." Vehicles Damaged In Three Mishaps Three automobiles and a truck were badly damaged in collisions here last night but none of the occupants of the six vehicles in volved was Injured. ; The front of a sedan driven by Harry C. Myers, 1340 Ferry street, was demolished when it crashed into a parked truck on Liberty street between Cbemeketa and Center at 10:50 p. nu The flat truck body was shoved off the chassis. Roy Manford Pence, 646 Breys avenue, was unhurt although his sedan was overturned and heav ily damaged when it collided at Center and High at 7:18 p. m., with a sedan driven by Sam Ges ner Rundlett, 1309 Fir. In the least serious of the trio of mishaps, a roadster operated by Jesse Lewis Richardson, Cen tral Point, was considerably dam aged in a collision at 6:10 p. m., with an auto driven by Herbert Schultz, route four, at D and Cap itol streets. Doctor at Dallas Suing Hospital For $15,000 DALLAS. Oct. 28. Dr. Isaac D Bartell has filed suit against the Dallas hospital (a corp.), Eva Wald Moore, Dr. Asa B. Star- buck and Bruce Spaulding.
