This was the first dance for the group this year. The Hallowe'en motif prevailed in the decorative scheme used about the ball room. Dancing began at 10 o'clock. J A large no-host dinner precea-o ed the dance at the Marion at 9 o'clock. Mr. and Mrs. D. J. Mc Lellan and Mr. and Mrs. Frank McColloch were among those en tertaining informally before the dance; The- affair was given at the McLellan home on E street. Scand ling, Richard Stolz, Sheldon Drama Crass Will Begin Meetings The first meeting of the El?e Ebsen drama class is scheduled for Tuesday at 2:5 in the home of Mr3. T. S.-Roberts. Meetings will be twice a month and modern American drama, .beginning with the end of the civil war will oc cupy the club's time. The frontier drama is to open the study cycle, including such dramas as: Horizon, by Augustin Daly; Davy Crockett, Murdock; Danites of the Sierras, Joaquin Miller; Two Men of Sandy Bar, Bret Hart; My Partner, Camp bell : Drama of the social manner will follow, then the romantic drama, including such early rep resentative plays by American dramatists as Rip Van Winkle, by Charles Barke and Francesco de Rimini, by George Boker. The social comedy, with a light touch of musical comedy will then be considered, the works Fitch, Philip Barry, Rachel Croth rs, Robert Emmet Sherwood and George S. Kaufman, will be read 'and discussed. Most stress is to be laid on social drama of the last decade by such playwrights as Owen Davis, George Kelly, Elmer . Rice, Sidney Howard, Paul Greed, ' Maxwell . Anderson, Eugene- B. O'Neill. Besides this general study, . some lectures are to be given, in cluding the Little Theater move ment in America; contemporary European dramatists of the late 19th and early 20th century, the tfnluence of Ibsen on. American drama; Rachel Corotbers, and the Feminine Criticism of Life. With Mrs. Else Ebsen as leader and Miss Alice Crarv Brown as secretary-treasurer, the club mem bership includes: MESDAMES ' J. M. Wilbur in Berkeley. Dr. Wilbur will perform the ceremony before relatives and friends of the couple who are in the Bay region. The bride will wear her grand mother's wedding dress of heavy ivory silk made with - full sweep ing skirt and train. She will wear a long lace veil which will fall from a cap. , She will carry a shower bouquet of mixed white flowers. ; ; . Miss Sylvia DuBois will be the bride's only attendant. Her gown is of blue taffeta fashioned sim ilar to the bride's with full skirt and long sleeves. She will carry an old fashioned bouquet. Mrs. West will Wear a dress of dark blue sheer with trimof ashes of roses. I Both Miss Weil and Mr. West attended Willamette university. Miss Weil graduated with the class of '34 and was a member of Delta Phi sorority. Miss Weil is the granddaughter of Mrs. T. L. Eliot and a niece of Dr. William G. Eliot, both of Portland. Committee TV jw.maaw" m, ' Philharmonic Concert at Lrcslie THE Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra association has made arrangements to use the Leslie junior high school auditorium for the orchestra's concerts to be giv en on November 30, February 8 and April 5. Because the armory la to be remodelled for legislature it was necessary to make' a change, and the spacious audi torium at Leslie is well suited for musical affairs. It has a seating capacity of 1200 Including a bal cony, modern lighting, comfort able seats, and a large well equip ped stage. Rehearsals have been under way since October 1, and Jacques Gershkovitch, conductor. Is very pleased with the personnel and interest of the musicians in their fifth season under his direction. Every season sees some change in the membership, due to col lege, work, removal from the city, illness, or heavy school sched ules. Rehearsals are strenuous, some of the musicals very, dlffl cut and it Is a test of ability and a credit to both students and In dividual teachers to play at sight scores like Massenet's "Le Cld" and the Mozart Concerto for pi ano and orchestra,, both" of which will be included in the Initial eon cert. :; - , ' .. The Philharmonic orchestra Is a wholesome, constructive Influ ence; developing fine instincts and providing a splendid ; outlet for musical talent. No fee or tu ition is charged. , t The association Is composed of SO civic minded men and women who manage the orchestra's af faire subscribing generously to its suppoTt. The orchestra has a small library of music and owns some of the instruments that can not be used for solo work, ; In cluding bassoon, string bass and tympani. Salem Folk Invited To Portland Party Invitations have been received by Salem folk from Mr. and Mrs. Willett Lake of Portland to an in formal party between the hours of five and eight o'clock next Sat urday. - ' .. The affair Is being arranged to follow the Oregon Washington game and will be held at the Lake home at Lake Oswego. The group has been organized for the purpose of furthering the In terest of the primary child. Meet ings are planned to be helpful and instructive. Hallowe'en Motif for Employe's Party - A Hallowe'en party is being planned by the employes of Fort land General Electric company of Marlon county, to be held In the Salem high school auditorium the night of Oct. 80. Foreign Films Shown for Benefit An exceptionally fine series of three foreign films will be spon sored by the American Associa tion of University Women it was decided at a special meeting of the executive board called by Mrs. Mllo Rasmussen, the president, yesterday. Three British releases will appear, under the sponsor ship of the organisation. The f irst two, "Nine Days a Queen" and "As Vou Like It", will be endorsed by and publi cized by the organization, but tickets will not be sold by mem bers of the group. Seats will be reserved at the box office of the State theatre where all three films are to be shown. The third picture, "Passing of the Third Floor Back", -also an English production, wUl be shown shortly after the first of the year. Bridge Tournament On Monday . Monday night at 7:45 wiU mark the last chance for bridge players to enter the Elks club bridge tournament and compete for sweepstakes prize. In the se ries of 8 Monday nights of con tract play, only the six best are used for final scores and there will be that many more in the tournament. Mrs. Max Gunter, directing the tournament, says that -any one wishing to enter one or more of the evening's of play is welcome to come. Dean Horace M. Ramsey of St.O- Stephen's cathedral of Portland performed the ceremony assisted by Rev. George H. Swift, rector of St. Paul's. - The altar was banked with a profusion of white flowers and tapers. The legal theme was carried out in the 'table dec orations with .law books, type writers and abstracts for place cards cleverly arranged on the ta ble.
