LYONS. Oct. 5 The farm
house at The Stone Ranch, six
miles-east vof Lyons, burned early
Friday morning. The Lawson fam
ily who had lived there for a time
left for California Thursday. How
the fire started is not known. It
was beyond control" when dis
covered. Mr. and Mrs. Glen Palmer who
havo lived here since January 1,
left for Island county, Washing
ton, last week. The Palmers ex
to remain in Washington where
her parents live. '
Mr. and Mrs. Gabett and, two
sons from South Dakota, hare
leased the house on the L. C.
Trask farm and plan to stay here
for the winter. Another of the Ga
Vett families has bought the acre
age known as the old Patterson
place In Fox Valley. The third Ga-
Vett family hasn't located a farm
yet. '.
Entertain at Skating
The members of the Lyons Ep-
worth league were entertained in
Salem Friday night at a skating
party - and banquet. Jlrs. Clyde
Lewis, Mrs. George Clippell and
Rev. Huckabee took the young
folks to Salem.

of Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Magee Sun
day night, with "500" and Pi
nochle in play. Mrs. J. H. KInser
and Jake Biersock were the win
ning players at "500' and Kurt
Wiedeman at pinochle.
The straw vote gave Landon 2;
Roosevelt 8; Lemke-2; Thomas 1.
Some of those present declined
to vote. The club will meet at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. John Plas
October 25.

hospital Saturday night arrived
on the birthday anniversary of the
father, Beverly Thurman.
Mrs. Rose Avers of Seattle was
an over Sunday guest at the home
of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Klnse. She
was with her son Leo and wife of
Salem. Mrs. Ayers was returning
home from an extended visit with
her daughter of San Francisco,

the 4-H clubs at the school hare
received the money which "they :
won as prizes on exhibits at the
state fair. Jean Hain won 319.50
in prizes on her pig club exhibit
and sold the flTe pigs for $142.
Coralee Nichols won 89 and a.
scholarship. She has sent her pigs,
to the -Pacific International at
Portland. . 8

Froehlick, calf club, 3; Ilm Mae
Creech, pig club, $7 and scholar
ship; Lillian Hamrick, turkeys,

fruit for 75, cents per Jar. There
were a number of smaller prizes
won. Mrs. Carmallta Weddle is

John Doubleday

ALBANY. Oct. 5. John Doub
leday, 98, diedat-his home in Al
bany Friday. Funeral services
will be held from the Interdenom
inational church and the body will
be shipped to Rexford, Kansas,
for burial.
John Doubleday was born in
Woolwick, England, July 16. 183S -
and came to the United States in
1871. In England Mr. Doubleday
was in the grocery store business
but after coming to the United
States he engaged in farming, first
in Iowa and later in Kansas. Af
ter coming to Albany In 1318, he,
retired from active work.
Four children survive:, Henry
Doubleday and Mrs. Mary Kelsey
of Albany, William G. Doubleday
of Sheldon, Kansas, and Mrs.
Lydia Meeks of Fairfield, Idaho.
He Is also survived by 18 grand
children and ten great grandchild-,
ren. - i
