Aug. 4.-(i?J)-Laat-xninate buying of farm shares today spread a. mild glow of en thusiasm oTer the stock market bat the list, was able to manage only irregular and limited gains. Reports from the drought re gions that crop deterioration might be checked in some sec tors provided a background for the buying of farm implements, brokers said. Case led the pack. Jumping 7 points to 168. International Har vester at 82 and Deere at 77Vi, bad gains of 1 and 2. respectively. . With the exception of late bid ding in some aircrafts and the farm stocks, buying lacked punch, however. A .drag on market sentiment from the start, some commenta tors said, was the disappointment of some in Wall Street who had looked for. a more generous di vidend disbursement yesterday by General Motors. The shares, among the most heavily traded, closed down 4 at 69.. Measured by the: Associated Press average of 60 shares the stock market was up .2 to 67.9. Transactions totaled 1.049,230 against 1,003,730 on Monday. CHICAGO. Aug. 4.-P)Twice In succession, grain values today suffered a major collapse, with corn in the lead smashing 4 cents down, the Immediate permissible j limit. i ' ' . - - 'v Unexpected rains In corn belt areas where drough - stricken crops may yet receive some bene fit, especially Iowa, led to the j first of two; selling stampedes. but in this instance a sharp up- j turn followed because of a big Increase of buying when prices tumbled. Later, however, predic tions of continued unsettled wea ther east of the Mississippi, giv ing further- hope for a check to crop deterioration, was largely the cause of a renewal of rushes to sell and of fresh tumbles in quotations. . Wheat gave way with corn in a market that at times has sel dom been surpassed for - swift wide price changes . and activity of trading. Contributing to , the acute weakness of values was the fact that at the close yesterday the market as based on Decem ber contracts was op 47 cents for at least the present. .. ; Hold Funeral Rites For Clara DeGuire Clara DeGuire.Neo. died at her home near West Woodbuni Mon day morning. . - She waa born in the West Wod- burn district March 20, 187C.
