Sales of Is were reported around 11.35. The stock is good but the flower is small. Spinach was scarce and higher. Craftsmen Plan Annual Banquet The three Future Craftsmen chapters at Salem high school will Join next Tuesday night in giving their annual banquet for boys, fathers and employers. The affair will be held at the Quelle cafe at 7 p. m. Program arrangements have not yet been completed. Members of -the apprentice chapter win bring as guests both their fathers and their employers, and of the ma chine shop and auto shop chap ters, their fathers. Reservoir Project at Corvallis Is Approved A WPA project to permit the city of Corvallis to put its new 6,000t,t00 gallon reservoir to use was allotted the necessary $5113 tn federal funds yesterday, it was announced here. The project con sists of 1 a y i n g approximately three miles of steel pipe from the reservoir to -the Corvallis city lim its. The city will spend $16,597 as its share in this project. Gains of fractions to aronnd 2 points were general at the finish, with a few issues getting np as much as 4 or more. Several new 5-year highs were recorded. At the same time brokers failed to exhibit any especial exuberance orer the recovery. One of the rea sons was that, while the activity was a bit ahead of yesterday's, it was still short of producing the profitable commissions of the past several months. Transfers totalled 1,083,270 shares against 986,700 Monday when the turnover was the small est since October last year. The associated Press average of 6 0 stocks edged up .2 of a point to 62.2. The industrial composite was up .5 while those of the utilities and rails managed to hold a net gain of .1 each. Peach Marketing Drive Strenuous SAX FRAXCISCO. March 31 (Jf$ The California canning peach interests will continue their nation-wide peach marketing drive. H. C. Merritt. stabilization committee- chairman, announced to day. Merritt said eastern chain store systems have Joined the move, which western stores earlier an nounced they would support. Four drives will be made, spac ed some days apart, beginning in mid-April and ending May 30. Recent reports Indicated the cold weather last week had less effect on the crop than at first re ported. Growers fear that with a heavy carry-over, they will be un able to get paying prices for their crop this year. Easing of Wool Prices Is Apparent at Boston ) As Demand Stays Weak BOSTON. March Zl-(JPy-(V. S Dept. Agr. )-Easing was apparent in the Boston market for fleece wools. Early shorn medium clips from midwestern states were available at around 38 cents in the grease delivered east. These wools were lots comprised of combing and clothing staple of and Vt blood grades. The prices at which these new wools were offered were estimated to be equivalent to around 40-41 cents in the grease for strictly combing blood and U blood Ohio fleeces graded in Boston While the quantities offered were small, the demand was ever small er thus causing a weakness in the tone oi the market. March 31. -Pacific highway day is to be the feature of the Wednesday noon luncheon and meeting of the Albany cham ber of commerce, with C. A. Ayre, secretary and manager of the Ore gon Pacific Highway association as the speaker. It is expected that Ayre will have something to say about the highway between Tangent and Harrisburg on which so many fa tal accidents have occurred, as well as many other important facts regarding the Pacific high way. Forms Are Ready The new Salem grade school building site, which has so far been no spectators' paradise, will cast off its drabness of scene Thursday If the, weather permits scheduled mass poring of concrete to get under way. The contract ors are planning Thursday and Friday to pour ,500 cubic yards of concrete walls and floors in the swiftest moving operations yet seen in the Salem school building program. . This building is located at Uni versity and Mission streets. To make ready for the big mix ing and pouring task, the grade building crews have been rushing wooden framework and steel rein forcing. Yesterday 'a "total of 7500 tons of reinforcing steel bad been set in place in the forms. While constructions resumed Monday at all three of the school building sites following a two-day shutdown on, account of wet wea ther, the cold forced delays in concrete work due to the fear of frost damage. All concrete tests were meeting city standards, in spectors reported. . The latest report prepared for the school board showed 198 men, including -foremen, at work. Of these 122 were busy at Leslie junior high, 53 at the senior high location and 23 at the grade school. Assist in Program TALBOT.
