Potato Shipping Markets Stronger Potato track holdings in the 14 leading markets reached a total of 1,411 cars last Monday bat had declined to 897 cars on Saturday of last week. Shipping point mar kets in Idaho, Oregon, and Wash ington displayed a firm to slight ly stronger trend last week, while terminal markets were steady to lightly weaker. Heavier arrivals reported by terminals Increased daily average track holdings in the mid-west, ranging from 50 per cent in SL Louis and Chicago to 100 per cent In Kansas City. Lively Building Program Carried On in Independence For February; Includes Overhauling Old Postof f ice INDEPENDENCE, March 4. February was a lively building month in Independence. Construc tion on several new and old bus iness concerns was started and business changes made. The Independence garage vacat ed its location in the Farmers' state bank building on Main street, and moved to the vacant shop between Sylvester's Drug and Amsberry's variety store, where an auto accessory and parts store was opened by Tom D. Pom erov. 1r. A. L. Thomas installed a complete new shelving system in the A. L. Thomas hardware. W. C. Wood, auto mechanic, has had a one-story garage, 2 4 by 40 feet, constructed on his property at 688 Main street. He has been operating a garage near the Inde pendence Creamery. Wells broth ers started building a service sta tion on the W. H. Cockle proper ty, just north of the Independence garage. The station is to be all steel with, a double drive-in. The two brothers. The meeting of the Young Ladies so dality Monday night was openea by an address by Father Alcuin in which he advocated more coopera tion among the members. He an nounced that no Intermission would be permitted at the sodal ity dances in future, and that or chestras willing to accept these conditions would be procurred. Miss Olive Klinger and Miss Constance Conrad were appointed to decorate the church altars dur ing the month of March. A program of music and mov ing pictures, in which the mem bers of both the Young Ladies' and the Young Men's sodalities Joined, followed the separate bus iness meetings. Given Residence Burned to Ground TURNER, March 4 The home of George Given, two miles east of town on the Turner-Aumsville highway, was destroyed with its contents by fire, late Saturday nighL Given had a fire in the bouse during the afternoon and had gone to Turner to spend the night at the home of his daugh ter, Mrs. Cecil Martin. March 4 Frost damage to grain in this sec tion was slight. The dirt brought onto the fields during the high water period last month did more damage than the frost. The Brown family who had been living in the cabin on the Hartwell farm bas gone to Salem. The regular card party will be held at the club house Friday eight. Golf Course Hits Financial Snags Sleeting Called Friday to Attempt Saving dub For This Year ALBANY, March 4 Foreclo sure of the property of the Albany Holding company which consists of the Knox Butte golf coarse was commenced here when Marks & MeMahan prepared to file papers for the recovery of $5,000 princi pal, and interest amounting to ap-l-roximately $1600, for Dr. and Mrs. H. A. Leininger. The golf club was organized in 1922 and the property was bought for $7,500. The following year a club house was erected at a cost of $4500, a water system costing $2500, and another $2000 had teen spent in laying out the course. Other improvements were made at different times.
