Chicken prices were established at a new all-time high record for the week's opening. Poll strength was generally re tained here in the market for country killed meats. Service Station i Will Replace Old Building INDEPENDENCE, Jan. 13. Wells brothers, one from Salem and the other near Albany, pur chased the old postoffice building on the corner of Main and C streets from the First National Bank. Jan. 13.-(iTwo important supreme court decisions failed today to throw the stock market off balance. Prices ended on an upward slant, with rails in active demand. Activity was restricted during nost of the day. although the late buying in rails caused the tape to slip a minute or ao behind around the finish. ' The Associated Press average of 60 stocks advanced .1 of a point at 57.5, edging Into new 1935-36 high ground. The 15 rajls in the compilation gave it its principal buoyancy with an advance of .5 of a point to a new top for more than a year at 32.4. The 15 utilities were .2 of a point improved while the 30 in dustrials slipped back as much. Turnover Small Turnover' in the stock exchange, a 599,250 shares, was the small er . for a 5-hour session since Jan uary 2. Most steel issues were steady to a bit lower. Bethlehem lost a point at 5214 while U. S. Steel was a shade down at 48 Santa Fe at 704 and Norfolk Western at 220 each advanced about 2 points. Stocks jip frac tions to a point or so included New York Central at 30 , Union Pacific at 114, International Telephone at 15, Southern Pa cific at 26, and Standard Oil of New Jersey at 54. Fractional losses were shown by American Can, Westinghouse Electric, Chry sler and General Motors. Wool Sales Slow j During Past Week BOSTON, Jan. 13.-JP) - (U.'S. Dept. Agr.) -Sales of wool in Bos ton have recently been slower than two or three weeks ago. Prices remained firm, the larger busi ness was on 64s and finer west ern grown wools. Scattered sales of small volume were closed on number of other lines. Average to short French comb ing 64 s, and finer domestic wools in original bags brought 82 to 84 cents scoured basis', while aver age to good French combing In similar lines realized 84 to 86 cents. Semi-bright strictlv comb ing and medium fleeces sold around 75 cents scoured basis for bes, blood and around 70 cents for 48s, 60s, blood. Prices on Wheat Supreme Court's Decision Momentarily Bullish; dose Down Trifle CHICAGO, Jan. 13. -(-Persistent liquidating of May con tracts did much to bring about a lower average of wheat values to day. - Short-lived rallies followed an nouncement that rice process tax case before the United States su preme court has been decided in favor of millers. Traders conclud ed afterward, however, that the status of taxes actually collected by the treasury remained in doubt and wheat prices again sagged. With new speculative buying p wer slack and with the Winni peg market acting as a ceiling, which prevented upturns, wheat closed unstable at the same as Saturday's finish to 1 cent lower. May 1.00-1.00, corn; - dow , May 59-60. oats unchang ed to off, and provisions vary ing from 20 cents setbacks to a rise of 2 cents. Corn and oats sympathized with wheat weakness.
