This, inci dentally, will open up a broad area of fine farm land. - Improvement of Vista avenue south of Salem. - - Improvement of Hoyt street from South 12th street, another project south of the city. Improvement to the Fiddler road, also south of Salem, by wid ening, clearing brush and other needed changes. This road comes off the south rider road this side of Roberts. Fiaish Mottuin Road Completion of the Moisan road in the Brooks district, a route which parallels the highways and forms a cutoff through fertile lands. A drainage project for brush ing, widening shoulders and oth erwise improving the Wheatland and Champoeg paved roads, start ing from this side of the junction of the two roads at the McNary corner. The Hopmere road may also be Put on for a similar drain age project. Other road projects are con templated and will be outlined later. Foreclosure Will Proceed, Asserted Taxpayers who wish to save any of 818 pieces of realty in Marion county from foreclosure Friday, December 20, must pay all back taxes and interest for 1930 and former years, together with the cost of advertising the property for sale, the sheriff's of fice announced yesterday. The special session of 1935 did not remit back interest on prop erty on which foreclosure had al ready been started, the sheriff's office advised. However, if the taxes through 1930 are paid up. the taxpayer may hare the ad vantages of the new tax law in paying up the remainder of the delinquency. The sheriff's office also warned that Saturday was the final day for paying the last quarter of 1935 taxes. Interest will begin on payments made thereafter al though payments coming in by mail with a December 15 post mark will be credited without in terest. Weller Estate Is To Pay Large Tax The estate of the late Charles S. Weller, Salem merchant, will pay a state inheritance tax of 32559. 97 according to probate papers filed yesterday in court here. Gross value of the estate was placed at $132. 827 with the next value after debts and administra tion expenses placed at $118,394. The first $10,000 of the net estate is exempt from state tax. The rates thereafter are: $15,000, one per cent; $25,000, one and one-half per cent; $25,000, two per cent; $25,000. three per cent; remainder, five per cent. George C. A. Banks, prison inmate, in which the lat ter agreed to pay Kellaher up to $50,000 if Kellaher secured a re lease from the governor for Banks. Kellaher emphasized that his appearance was voluntary and District Attorney Trindle confirm ed the statement. John R. Murphy, Kellahers at torney, accompanied him to Sa lem but did not make an appear ance before the Jury. Kellaher declined to comment on the charges against him but did talk with animation on the scheduled meeting at Mt. Angel December 16 when the creation of a power district in Marion county will be considered. The Jurors have given no indi cation ;as to the time they would complete their investigation on the Kellaher case and make their report. I J: Teacher Exam Set But System Going School teacher exams the age old method by which the teachers of the three "r'a" won their cer tificates are on again here next week but the exams are rapidly coming to a decline In the state and by the lime 1938 comes 'round will be a thing of the past. The! "reason: After 1937, teachers can only be certified aft er they have completed two years' of normal school work. By 1941 that requirement will have gone up to three years' of normal school i work. Only half a score of teachers are expected to take the exams here beginning next Wednesday, December 18. The majority of teachers now serving in the coun ty have completed normal school requirements. Many of the pros pective teachers who will be ex amined want to complete their tests and to get life certificates which will not be possible under the exam method after 12 months more have elapsed. Snikpoh Drama to Be Given Tonight A three-act play brimming with comic circumstance in connection with the practice and love of a newly-become young physician and surgeon will be presented by the Snikpoh dramatic society in "Go Ahead" in the Salem high school auditorium at 8:15 o'clock tonight. The production Is coached by Lelia Johnson, faculty adviser.
