Phllippi had been "cruising" the stream, in quest of ducks, of which he bagged several at one shot, he said. See Ducks Galore "The eddies in the river were literally black with ducks i during the recent snow and freezing weather, driven from inland wa ter by Ice covering on lakes and small bodies of 'water," he j added. Phlllppl's boat Is of steel con struction weighing 98 iounds. "It is fortunate for me that! lit Is a light affair," he observed. 'Heav ing a boat over the riffles by hand is, no picnic and I had a lot or such picnics on that little trip down the South Santiam."! Several hundred ducks could be seen on the river at a i single glance, phllippi reported. Big mallards were thick andii many varieties ot the smaller birds were In evidence, he said. Several hears were required to make the dis tance by water in the steel boat. Phllippi also spent a portion of the deer-hunting season in wild game haunts of the state, but' was less fortunate- than on the water with a shotgun In a January snow, storm in October. "But that's 'un nsual in western Oregon." he qualified. j j: Home Economies Club Will Hold Elections Over Until December SILVERTON HILLS. l:v, 14.
