The characters were well chosen and each player did his part excep tionally well. Automobiles : i Fruit, Vegetable Shipments Small Salvaging Operations in Progress; Cain Noted in Potato Loading An additional decrease in fruit and vegetable shipments in j: the northwest occurred during j the week ending November 11, while orchardists and vegetable grow ers surveyed the damage caused by the freezing weather, says Market News Service. Salvaging operations were in progress with indications: of rather heavy dam age to many crops. Carlot ship ments during the week totaled 2, 793 cars. : j Potatoes; were the only product showing any definite increase In movement when 1,261 cars! were loaded. Idaho led with 935 .cars, followed by Oregon with J 262 cars, while; Washington shipments totaled 64 cars. Shortage of Po tatoes in many Pacific coast piar kets coupled with an approximate 100 per cent increase in ; price caused th heaviest weekly ; load ings of the present season. How ever, heavier shipments caused markets to weaken late last week and prices were generally lower at the close in most of thej lm portant terminal markets, j il ' Crop estimates, released by the Division of Crop and Livestock Estimates, indicate a further de crease in the total potato produc tion in the United States. Total production hi the United States. as of November 1st, is estimated to be 253.805,000 bushels. The three northwestern states have the following estimated "pro dnction: Oregon, 4,070,000 ! bush .els; Idaho, 18,810,000 bushels, and Washington, 6,600,000 j bush els. This Represents a reduction from the Octoher 1st estimate of 2,935,000 bushels. !; Onion shipments decreased to 174 cars last week -as, compared with 220 cars during the previous week. Oregon shipments this sea son neared the 500 cars mark when loadings of 27 cars 1 last week brought total shipments this season to 489 cars. Prices to Ore gon growers were advanced to $1.50 per cwt., plus bags i and twine, a very unusual .condition this early in the season. Around Yakima, prices to growers; Were also advanced, with sales a$ high as $1.75 per cwt., in carlots FOB usual terms. . . ; Northwps'crn apples, which probably a ; red the most! dam age of an, individual product during the recent freeze, j :were generally quoted at higher prices by shippers during the week. However, shipments decreased to 1,130 cars, which were the small est during any weekly period since October 1st. Very few ;sales were reported from Weniatchee and Yakima at the close of the period.
