Alumni of the University of Oregon Medical school and of the old Willamette university medical school met for the annual Alumni association dinner this noon. Captain Zbigniew Bursynskl, pilot of tbe Polonla, on his ar rival today In Moscow declared a sQuadron of Russian military air planes had tried to force the bal loon to land Monday near the frontier by. firing warning shots for forty minutes. The planes, he said, finally permitted the flight to continue. He informed the Polish Aero clcb he saw the German balloon Aldred Hlldebrandt landing near Minsk. The United States pilot, Lient. Raymond F. Tyler, with Naviga tor Lieut. Howard P. Orvllle, landed in the American balloon U. S. Navy approximately S20 miles distant. The Americans left Minsk last night aboard a train for Warsaw. The Polish balloon, piloted by Burzynski and navigated by Wla dyslaw Wysocki, landed near Tisn klno. It lacked only five minutes being in the air 72 hours. Value of Kimonos Customs Problem PORTLAND, Sept. M.-flP)-Customs inspectors met a problem today when they attempted to estimate he value of ceremonial kimonos and paining- shipped here from Tokio by Jlro Harada, com missioner of the Imperial house hold museum, who will Join the faculty of the University of Ore gon as art critic within the next few weeks. ' The officers made no comment, however, as they surveyed the boxes and bails. The visitor was on hand to watch the Inspection. Jiro Harada is to be with the University of Oregon duringg the fall and winter term and later has announced he will tour Pacific coast colleges for lecture courses at University of California. Mills college, Stanfard, the University of Washington and also the Seat tle museum of fine arts. Courses are to range from one to two weeks. He will also tour all schools of higher education in Oregon as a guest speaker from the university.. Ickes in Favor of Saving Wild Life WASHINGTON, Sept. 19.-(ff)-Secretary Ickes pledged coopera tion today with wild life preser vation efforts of Jay N. "Ding Darling, chief of the biological survey. He told his press conference that the basis for much of the criticism hurled at the Interior department's reclamation bureau had been removed at a confer ence. In the current Issue of a week ly magazine, Darling assailed' the bureau as the government's great est offender In destroying wllde life. Ickes said Darling wrote the ar ticle before a conference attend ed by Dr. Elwood. Mead, reclama tion bureau head, Ickes, and other, officials of the biological survey. "We are going to cooperate to the fullest possible extent," Ickes said, "to encourage and preserve wild life; Legion Officer Depart For St. Louis Meeting; Koehn, Warner on Trip PORTLAND, Sept. Fishing Vessel is Imbedded in Sand BAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 19.-VP) -San Francisco headquarters of the coast guard tonight reports two of its cutters, the- Shawnee and tne Ariadne, were standing by the grounded fishing boat,: Vaga bond Lady, near Pigeon Point, 60 miles south of here. Efforts to pull the Vagabond Lady out of the sand, into which it became deeply Imbedded after running aground early today, thus far have been unavailing, the coast guard reported. The boat, an 82-foot fishing schooner recently built at an es timated cost of $40,000, Is owned by A. Sabella of San Francisco, It carried a crew of 12 men.
