Construction of the Methodist Episcopal . church Sunday school temple has progressed so nicely that expectations now are it will be in use on or before October 1, Dr. - James E. Milligan, pastor, stated yesterday. Tentative date for the dedication has been set for October 13. , The. temple, adjoining .the church to the south and of the same architectural design as the main building, now has the roof on, basement rooms plastered and most of the windows in and doors hung. The structure is now ready for the interior work, which will not be an ordinary plaster, but rather a gypsum product, weatherwood, with the walls to be finished in old brush ivory and the ceiling in light ivory. The wall and ceiling finish has both acoustic and in sulation features. The temple is the first large building in the west completely furnished with this in terior finish. Oak floors will be laid throughout the new construction. Pay'n Takit Group s Adopts Title of Others but No Change in Policies . Effective, today,: Pay'n Takit and Safeway stores throughout Salem will be "married" under the combined name ot Safeway stores, George C. Solterbeck, dis trict manager, announced here yesterday. Managers of the local stores and Mr. Solterbeck declared that the change, while affecting the names' of the stores, in no other major respect would change the local organization. The same number of stores will be contin ued in the city under the same personnel. Due to the change. prices in the Hollywood store in North Salem will hereafter be the same as those in the downtown stores. The idea originally behind the separate divisions was that one group of stores should be of the "self-sell" type, the other of the standard service type. Simpler Auditing la One Benefit Directors of the chains now feel that the two groups have served the varying purposes for which they, were organized, and that it would be a move economical to customers as well as to the owners to weld the rtwb together under a single name. Operation under one name is expected, among dther things, to simplify auditing, increase buying ! Dower, imnrovn minorvialnn anil reduce delivery expenses. Savings derived as a result are to be pass ed on to purchasers. In celebration of the occasion as a gesture of good will, huee cakes in the form of wedding cakes are to be placed in each of the stores Saturday. . All custom ers will be .welcome to help, them selves. The union of the two groups of stores Is said to be only one of the first steps in Safeway's forward stride, for 1935.- Material reduc tions In the prices of many items is scheduled to follow soon. Lou Smith is manager of the newly-named Safeway store at Court and Commercial streets while Harold Bacon is vegetable supervisor of stores in this district and Charles Duvall has charge of the market. Laren P. Griggs is manager of the store at 935 South Commercial street and Grant Pyatt Is market manager there. F. A. Berkey is manager of the Safeway store at 1978 North Cap itol street Disabled Vets Soon to Offer Benefit Dance Disabled American Veterans of the World War, Salem chapter No. 6, announced, yesterday that they would hold a benefit dance at O.s tilian ballroom Friday evenicg, September 6. Xo one but Disabled Vet erans will have anything to do with the selling of the -tickets, states E. F. Moore, senior vice-commander. HOP PICK PRICE ISll'I ESTABLISHED No price for picking of hops in this section has yet been agreed upon, though one prominent grow er stated yesterday the price to pickers will -probably be 50 cents per box, which is equivalent to about $1.20 per hundred pounds. Growers met at Independence recently and talked prices which would coincide with the above fig ures, though the Polk county meeting voted In the end to leave the price to pickers in hands of the individual' grower.
