The descendants of William and El- - mira Looney and Nelson Ransome Doty and wife. Elm Ira Looney Doty, held their annual reunion in , the Doty grove northwest of Jef ferson Sunday. This was the dona tion land claim Doty's father, Nel son Ransome Doty, bomesteaded in 1846. Nelson Ransome Doty came to Oregon In 1844, taking active part in the Cayuse Indian " "war. Mr. and Mrs. William Looney ' and five children started from Springfield, Mo., in the upring of ' 1849, going to Sacramento. From there to San Francisco, coming to Portland by ox team to the vicin- - lty of Jefferson where they set tled. Looney was drowned In the Santiam river after comin s to Ore- . gon, and his widow married Nel son Ransome Doty who was shoe maker and saddler by trade and operated JJie first tannery in Ma rion county. W. E. Doty of Jeffer son is the only survivor of the six .: Doty .children. . . - A basket dinner was served at boob and swimming and various sports .and visiting formed the di version of the day. . Hlggins of Kansas City, Mo., enlisted the aid of his 23-year-old daughter, Carol Higgins, when he clamped ' down on drug stores violating the city's liquor and beer ordinances. Her investigations unfolded enough evidence to bring "82 druggists into court on charges of violating the city's ordinances prohibiting them from selling beer by the drink. Miss Higgins, feeling her job had been done, then "retired" from duty.
