Concert Awaits Heat The all-day picnic and band concert which was to have been held at the Gillis home near Woodburn, Sunday, for members of the Hubbard community band and their families was Indefinite ly postponed due to inclement weather. A series of outdoor con certs to be given in Hubbard dur ing the summer has also been de ferred until warmer weather. Mr. and Mrs. E. P. Rer. K. K. Clark conducted the funer al service, of Mrs. Robert Davis at .Yonealla, Wednesday.' Rev. Clark was pastor of the Yoncalla Methodist church for several years. Mrs. M. J. Elle and two chil dren are spending several days in Portland with Mrs. Elle's mother. - A Junior Townsend meeting was held Tuesday night In the parson age of the First Christian church with Lyle Thomas o( West Sa lem as principal speaker. Mrs. Garnet Smith and family who have been residing in West Salem havennoved to Salem and are staying with Mrs. John Enslin, daughter of Mrs. Smith. Mrs. F. M. Moore and son, Or- rllle, .were recent visitors of Mr. and Mrs. Jess Moore and family In Portland. Eastridge Boys Place Orville Eastridge of- Salem, who la employed ' at the Marion gar age, will move into the house on Edgewater street which was for merly the Garnet Smith home. Eastridge has purchased the prop erty. Gosser In Hospital Jack Gosser, who has been quite ill, is some improved. It will be necessary for him to re main in the hospital at least one more week. Miss Edna Mae Vincent of Port land is spending tlireo weeks with her aunt, Mrs. Carl Pyeatt. Deans Ready Boon The Hillman cannery has fin-: lshed work In the cherries. The canning of logans Is now under way. This is requiring a small crew which "works only at nights-. Work on beans will begin the lat ter part of the month, -weather permitting. New machinery is being installed for the bean Sea son. It is expected that two or three shilts will be run. T. J. Slams has purchased the property at 1025 Third street and is shingling the entire exterior of the house and remodeling the in terior. Mr. Slams has moved into the house. Miss Elvera Gronquist of Port land is spending a few days with her sister, Mrs. T. H. Gobs. AT SPRINGS FOR HEALTH TURNER, July ,11. -Mr. and Mrs. E. C. Bear and children, Eu nice and Billy, and Eleanor, Parks of Salem, left Wednesday for Breitenbnsh Springs, to be gone a few weeks. Wednesday night resulted in master Artisan, M. A. Hannan; past master Artisan, Essie Specht; superintendent, Earl Bennett; senior conductor, Mary Vearier; junior conductor, Alice Swanson; M. of C, Robert Scott; musician, Edna Minor; inspector, Esther McEwen. These officers were elected for six months. Holdovers are secretary, Maude' Hannas ; treasurer, Bert Swanson. Appoint ive officers will be announced Wednesday night. The meeting held Wednesday night was a special meeting as through July and August meet ings are held only on the first and third Wednesday night of each week. Ginger Snaps gx 5., c SCIO, July 11. Enoch Cyrus Shelton, 67, died at Scio at 3 a. m. July 11 from the effects of kidney disease. He has been bed fast for several weeks. He was born seven miles Bouth of Scio Oct. 5. 1867. He had spent his entire life in Linn county, with the exception of one year in east ern Oregon. He was married to Amanda Pomeroy, Oct. 10, 1888. Survivors are the widow, Am anda Shelton; two sons, Rolla and Roy, both of Scio; one sister, Mrs, Isobel Yarbrough, Ashland; M. H. Shelton, Portland; George Shel ton, Ashland; and Riley Shelton, Scio. Four grandchildren and one great grandchildren also survive. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p. m. at the Scio Baptist church of which the de ceased was a member of long standing. Rev. V. L. Loucks will be in charge.
