ARTHUR TRASK IS HID IT LYONS LYONS, May 16. Funeral ser- rice were held here Wednesday morning at the Fox Valley ceme tery tor the late Arthur Trask who died suddenly at Salem Mon day afternoon. He is survired by three brothers, Louis C. Trask of Lyons; Horace Trask of Newberg and John K. Trask of Mill City, besides a number of nieces and nephews. E. Ralston, pastor of the Mill City Christian church of ficiated. Mr. and Mrs. George Clip pell of Lyons, sang. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Allen went to the coast Sunday. They visited Mrs. George Hubbard and Miss Fern Hubbard at Waldport. Mrs. Hubbard and Fern expect to leave Waldport soon to join Hubbard at Cascadia. Sunday a group of friends from Salem spent the day at the G. F. Johnston home. Those coming from Salem were: Mrs. A. E. Hale, Miss Laura and Mae Hale, Miss Grace Taylor. Miss Dorothy Wheeler, Mrs. Schram and Miss Maud Simon. Lafler Sells Cafe ; Stock to Joe Brown of Gervais Section AURORA, May 16. Frank Mc Allister, jr.,fyoung son of Mr. ana Mrs. Frank jMcAllister of Aurora, is in the Sit. Vincent's hospital. Portland, wbere he underwent an operation for mastoids. F. E. Lafler, proprietor of the Aurora cafe, disposed of his stock to Joe Bonn of Gerraia and it will be taken to that place. Mr. Lafler has conducted the bus iness here for many years. Mrs. Albert Beckman Gardeners President WOODBURN, May 16. The Garden club met at the library Tuesday evening. Election of of ficers was held with Mrs. Albert Beckman chosen as president of the club for the ensuing year. Mrs. E 1 1 s a Christensen was elected vice - president and Miss Carrie Waterbury re - elected secretary- treasurer. Plans were made for the spring flower show to be held June 8 with J. J. One of the largest crowds of the year at tended the last meeting of Che Parent Teachers associaiton at the high school Monday sight. A club supper was served, followed by a abort business meeting. Jones has been appointed to fill the vacancy on the sehool board left by the resignation of A. A. Pierce. He will serve the balance of Mr. Pierce's term. , A 7 -pound baby boy, Lennard , Loring, was born to Mr. and Mrs. Harry Brttt (RozelUr Frink) at the Dallas hospital Monday. VOLUME The fixtures In the main store room were prorlded through the McKesson Drug company, large national organization which serves as a wholesaler for the Wiles store here. The equipment represents that concern's latest design in efficient equipment for a store. The prescription room fixtures were manufactured lo cally by the Charles K. Spauld ing Logging company. ' matches with Its lrory and black colors. J. K. Wiles and C, E. Wiles, father and son, came to Salem eight years ago from Kankakee, Illinois, and acquired the drug store which they are now operat ing. It was then known as the Opera House Pharmacy, subse quently as the Wiles' Opera House Pharmacy and more re cently has been designated as the Wiles Drug store. Mr. Wiles expressed himself yesterday as well pleased with Sa lem and with trade opportunities here. "We came west from Illinois and liked the city and made our investment here. Lll OF SALES IUS1 Present volume of business in dicates that the gross returns of the state liquor control commis sion in 1935 will exceed 15,500,- 000, according to figures released Thursday. During the 11 months the li quor stores and agencies were in operation last year the commis sion grossed $3,154,560.30. Dur ing the first three months of this year the receipts aggregated $1,- 241.279.19. Officials said the recent reduc tion in the price of liquor per mits had stimulated business. Last year 86,517 of these permits were Issued. To March 30 of this year the permits totalled 59,727. The commission also expects to save considerable money through discounts on its purchases. Hail, state president of the Fra ternal Order of Eagles, was pres ent at the Tuesday night meet ing here when the new club rooms and lodge room in the Wolfard building was officially opened. Mrs. James Scarth, president of the American Legion auxiliary, an-1 nounces that the senior Girl Re serves, will put on the program for the Monday night meeting. It I is understood that the girls will put on the stunts they gave for the recent Junior Jamboree. Six teen girls and two advisers will be present The advisers are Ruth Vance and Mrs. P. L. Brown.
