Miss Bernlce Newhouse, Instructor In English and foreign languages in the Sclo high school for the last three years, was reelected to that posi tion at' the monthly meeting ot the Scio school board this week. Cecil Elder was retained as coach for his second year here. Selection of a principal and a commercial teacher was deferred for the time being. It Is under stood neither F. A. Gallegly, who has officiated as principal here for eight years, nor Miss Doris Neptune, commercial and ho m e economics instructor for the last four years, had applied for the positions for another year. In the grades. Miss Blanche Johnson was offered another year as primary teacher; Miss Gertrude Tarr. incumbent, for the nun and sixth grades; and B. P. Caldwell for the seventh and eighth grades. A fourth grade teacher Is to be employed later if conditions war rant, it was agreed. Salaries of all teachers were advanced $5 per month for the next school year." The schedule announced - at the meeting this week is as follows: Miss New- house, $95; Cecil Elder, $100; E. P. Caldwell, $100; Miss John son. $80: Miss Tarr, $80. E. P. Caldwell, who has hand led seventh . and eighth grade work here for the last 10 years, was designated as principal of the local grade' school. A totem pole SO feet high with carvings carrying out back aroo symbols, such as In dians and backing horses, is to be bailt in Molalla and placed on the backaroo grounds, according to pres ent plans. The pole will he built as an SERA project by Carl Strong, who made the totem pole at the Detroit DOC camp. The Molalla Buckaroo as sociation voted Tuesday night to sponsor the pro Ject, which means that the association will pay work men's compensation and buy some paint. The project has already been approved by the county board. armel was retained as janitor and his salary was Increased from $35 to $40 per month. The 88th birthday ot Mrs. Mary Robblns was observed at gathering of relatives and friends at the fam ily home here Tuesday afternoon. Mrs. Robblns, known to Molalla people as "Aunt Mary Robblns," is a pioneer of 1852. She came across the plains from Ohio. That same year Oliver Robblns also crossed the plains. They met in Oregon and were married Novem ber 2, 1865. They celebrated their 68th anniversary in 1933. A short time later Mr. Robblns died. When she was 68 years old, Mrs. Robblns underwent a serious operation for appendicitis and re covered completely In a short time. She now leads an active life. Sev eral years ago she was one of the organizers of the Molalla Civic club and was instrumental in pro curing a city park. She has two children, Mrs. Orla Buxton and Mrs. Kate Adams, both of Molalla; five grandchil dren and six great grandchildren.
