Volume of the stock exchange ! decreased to 466,392 shares com-! pared with 648,540 yesterday. The Standard Statistics Co. average for 90 stocks closed off seren -tentlu of a point at 78.7. Steel, rail, motor and utility shares were particularly heayy and losses of a point or more were recorded In U. S. Steel, Chrysler, Santa Fe, New York Central and Western Union. National Distillers rallied frac tionally from Its decline yesterday and a number of preferred stocks with thin markets made sizeable gains. Consumption oi Wool 6 Months, Well Above 1933 BOSTON, July 12.-V(U. S. Dept. Agr. )-Despite the current lack of demand for wool here sen timent wag rather hopeful, appar ently based upon a belief that mill stocks of wool were very low. Stan dards were unchanged at 19c, me dium extras advanced from 18c to 19c and medium firsts were un changed at 17c. The advance bad been forecast on the strength In the market for quality specials and extras which are In firm demand and slow sup ply. The usual warm weather supply of undergrade stuff was evident. Receipts have dropped off heavily at all coast points. Marked decline in butter receipts was reported at all coast points and the market was re ported In a firm position. Prices were unchanged here. The wholesale trade was feel ins the effects of the marine trades strike. Houses reported definite losses In business. Trad ing was llghL Smooth peas were scarce on the market here and fully firm at current prices. Receipts were light. Local tomatoes were In better supply and the quality is improv ing. Sixes are better. The trade was quoting generally 75c to 8c Cots were in about the same position as earlier in the week They were being quoted generally at around 45c on the small re ceipts and moderate call. ' Veal was fully "firm again a t 7,4c to Sc. Receipts were light Hogs were steady lOVfcc to 11c and Umbers the same at 12c to 13c Poultry was nominally steady on all kinds.
