CflHS RATED t i II IT MEET LONDON, June 20.-!p) - Mem bers of the United States Davis Cup team were given only secon dary consideration today In the seeded list for the Wimbledon ten nis ' championships starting Mon day, but in actual play in the Queens Club tournament they continued into the quarter final round. With Dave Jones, former Co lumbia university star and now a Cambridge student, as a com panion, Frank X. Shields, Lester Stoefen, George M. Lott, Jr., and Sidney B. Wood, Jr., won third round matches. Shields put out the cup team captain, R. Norris "Dick" Williams. In the draw for the play at Wimbledon, Shields was seeded only fifth, with Stoefen and Wood rated directly behind him in that order. Jack Crawford, of Austra lia, the defending champion, headed the list followed by Fred Perry, England's cup ace, the sen sational young German, Baron von Cramm and H. W. "Bunny" Austin, Perry's cup team mate. Gloglo de Stefanl, of Italy, was seeded eighth completing the list. Although the men were little favored, the sensational play of Helen Hull Jacobs and Sarah Pal tray in defending the Wlghtman Cup fast weekend gave them first and third seeding, respectively, in the women's list. Last year's final ist, Dorothy Round of England, was rated second. Parade by Eight Teams to Open Softball Season Next Monday; Plan Announced Plans for the big opening of the summer season of the Salem Soft ball league were announced Wed nesday by Dwight Adams, league secretary. The opening .double header, contestants ia which will not be kown until the parade and the crowd reach Sweetland field, is to be played next Monday night. The eight teams, with all play ers in uniform, will form the par ade, marching from the Y. M. C. A. at 7:30 down through the business district and out to the field. There will be over 100 play ers in the procession and the bright uniforms and the signifi cance of the occasion will make it a gala event. The soltball players this season will be "real amateurs," for It will cost them money to play; each member of each team will put in $1 toward the light fund. Teams entered in the league, and listed in the order in which they will appear in the parade, are: Elks, Merchants (the new team organized by Don Hendrie), Kay Woolen Mills. Parker's, Mas ter Bread, Pade's, Wait s Market. Hogg Brothers. A drawing will be held to pick the contestants for the two games. Mechanics Win From Shippers With 8-7 Score MILL CITY. June 20. The shipping crew was defeated 8 to 7 in a fast game of kitball here Monday by the mechanics. Each team got seven hits. R. Ray and F. CTenshaw were the batteries for the mechanics and Bruder and Fink for the shipping crew. Two more games will, be played this week, one on Wednesday evening and another on Friday evening. The next game for the home league nine will be Sunday at Me- hama when they will meet, the Turner baseball nine. Peterson Pitches for Everett Now Andy Peterson, former Willam ette university and Salem Senator pitcher who was with the Port land Ducks early this season and hurled for Toledo In a State league game here later, Is .now a reg ular on the mound staff of the Everett, Wash., team in the North west league - which includes a number of the larger cities in Washington. Everett has a rather weak team, which has won only one of 18 games played to date. Peterson is reported to have had Bome trouble with control in his recent pitching.
