PAGE EIGHT Tim OREGON STATESMAN, Salem, Oregon, Tuesday Morning, November 21, 1933 Tine MeMordNew :Awm ; IS STILL BOOD - . . Oregon Team to be Invited Is Decision; Selection r Friday forecast PORTLAND. Not. 20. () A: contest for the mythical grid Iron title of the state will be play ed at Multnomah stadium Thanksgiving-day between the winner of the Portland Interscholastlc cham- ' pionship and one of the strong up state contenders, it was decWed . at a meeting of officials, of the Portland. High School Principal's association here today. It will be the annual Shrine benefit game. Two jot the out-of-town teams prominently mentioned today were Salem and Bend. The high school team of each of those cities has an. Imposing record for the sea son., ' The matter was complicated to day when it wag learned that Med f ord high may also make a bid for the Portland game. Medford, undefeated and untied this sea son, had scheduled a Thanksgiv ing day game with Ashland, but word was received here today that .the game has been -advanced to next Saturday, and- if Medford is victorious, it was understood, it will put In a formal bid for the game. Even the Portland team to play has not been definitely determin ed. Washington high school is leading the league with no de feats, but has three ties against It. The Colonials meet Roosevelt this week, and should the Rough Riders produce an upset, .either Commerce or Jefferson might win the title. ( The decision today eliminated the possibility of an out-of-state team coming to Portland for the game. North Central high of Spo kane and Enumclaw high and Kampa. Idaho, high, had been con sidered. Definite decision on the team is planned for Friday night. (CURTIS Fair -weather unless you count fog all week; rain in great, cold bunches accompanied by-a biting wind on Sunday. It's happened a couple oftimes re cently and while it may be fokeh with certain outdoor workers, of ficers of the Salem Golf club who are endeavoring to get the Indus trial league going, don't like it a bit. ' -O-A bardy, enthusiastic Mates man team turned out lOO per "cent, some members playing , last week and others on Sun day, bnt no other teams of the eight - that were supposed to . play, turned in a complete ros Ttr and nobody is blaming them. The Industrial league was : not designed to promote cbii . blains, rheumatism and lumba go, and in .view of Sunday's ex perience It has now been dc- creed that any matches schedul , , d for euch a .disagreeable time - will be postponed a matter - ; that can be handled simply, as teams can play any number of required opponents at, one time. . Teams which were scheduled to play last week ending Sunday, -,, will be given another week to -. get in their scores. " So the schedule for' next Sun day will be a busy one, and there will be several teams playing six opponents. .Here it is: - Postponed matches: Medical-Dental, Bankers, State Capitol, Packers. . Printers, Automotive, States nan, Bonus-National Guard. Regular matches: - Insurance Realty, Engineers, One Hoar Logger IHIeutoei?ti vs. Bulldog eJQcElGOIHl Both are rough and tough and will have the lans on their feet the entire match. i Squeak Clevenger vs. Don Sugar ADMISSION 85c Downstairs and Ringside 55c Bale. 40c ; Ladies All Tax Free Tuesday, November 21st Under Auspices American Legion HERB OWEN, Matchmaker Rams9 Captain :3i i ' i L Fordham's football field general this season is "Big Ed" Danowski who starred as a back last year. The husky skipper of the Ram tquad was born and raised on a farm near Riverhead. Long Island, and did his early punting with pumpkins. Medical-Dental. Printers. State: office, Utilities, Eankers, Automotive. . J Thus there wilj be 1 1 teams out Sunday, The" Statesman hav ing .already turned in its score and' some members of other teams; of these 11, four will be playing six opponents each. It's a little complicated, but the players don't , have to worry about that the secretary of the league takes care of it. O Aforesaid secretary did make one bobble in figuring up the standings after tbe first Sunday's play, however, and he has since corrected it. The standings are as follows: W. 3 . 3 2 2 . 1 1 L. Pet. 0 1.000 0 1.000 1 .667 1 .667 2 .333 2 .333 3 .000 3 .000 Gasoline League Indpstrial State QffJce ... Engineers Ed. -Legal Ins.-Realty Utilities -. 0 Business 0 BE TOPIC TONIGHT Election of officers, appointment of committees to draw, up a con stitution and schedules for the winter's play and selection of the opening date of play will occupy much of the time at the meeting of both city basketball leagues to night at 8:00 o'clock at the Y. M. C. A. No team may be entered in either the open or closed league later than this week, Dwight Ad ams, physical director at the Y and organizer here of this partic ular recreational plan, announced yesterday. Definite schedules of weekly practice have already been started by eigh':, teams using the Y gym floor. It'will be suggested tonight that play start immediately after Thanksgiving, Adams said. Boxing, Grapple Classes at Y. M. Proving Popular .Boxing. classes at the.Y. M. C. A. working out each Tuesday a.nd Thursday night at 7:30 o'clock, promise to be almost as popular as anything on the physical edu cation schedule, officials there said yesterday. No previous exper i i:e in boxing is necessary since the Instruction by Clyle Grewell begins with fundamentals and deals' with the art of boxing, rath er than with attempts to make fighters. No matches are antici pated and activities will more than likely be confined to class periods. Ohe Hour Robin vs. Dorry BDsttttoiD Fast, clean and scienti fic, bat both can get tough if necessary. SCHEDULE Reed a Middleweight . now; Jackson, Heibert mix, Should be Wild . ; hen Robin Reed last wrestl ed In Salem he was a welter weight; he returns tonight a full fledged member of the middle weight class and as such, holder of no championship belts, though he retains the world 145-pound belt for which he has battled here at various times. Tonight Reed will meet Dorry Detton, clean grappling youngster from Okla homa, in one of two equally-featured one-hour bouts at the arm ory. When Reed was promoting wrestling in Salem several months ago and Herb Owen was running a rival show across the river, there was considerable specula tion as to how Reed would stack up with the men appearing In West Salem. Tonight is the tans' first opportunity to find out. The other main event brings to gether the wild "Logger' Hei bert and the wild, wild. "Bulldog" Jackson and it promises to be a backwoods or even jungle battle.
