Dojlk, Society Editor Miss Farmer is Complimented Miss Marguerite Farmer, bride elect of Lloyd Myers, both popular members of the clty'a younger set, whose marriage will be held in 'the near future,, was honored Weednesday night with a miscel laneous shower given by Miss Marie Plllette and Mrs. Harry Kroner at the Kroner home. The bride-elect received many gifts, which were presented on a little red wagon, decorated with old shoes. The little Crossler twins, Darlene and Darrell, pull ed the wagon. Cards were played during the evening. Prizes went to Miss Muriel Rowe and Mrs. J. V. Cross l.ar. The house was charmingly dec orated in the Valentine motiff. The luncheon tables were center ed with tall red tapers. A delightful social evening was combined with the regular busi ness meeeting of the Salem Zonta club at the home of Miss Helen Yockey Thursday night. At this time Miss Helen Louise Crosby was elected as delegate to repre sent the club at the district six conference to be held at Everett, Wash., March 18 and 19. Mrs. Winifred Herrlck will serve as an alternate. Plans were discussed for the program which was pre sented by the club at Brush Col lege school Friday night. W. Hagmeler. presi dent, of Monmouth. Seventeen members enjoyed the occasion. An attractive color scheme ot green and red using the Valentine motif enhanced the table, and' red hearts were used as place cards. The study for the day was two Elizabethan classics: The Palace of Pleasure, Painter; and Rosa lynde, by Lodge. Mrs. O. D. But ler and Mrs. M. J. Butler ol in dependence gave short talks. Mrs. A. B. Robinson of Inde pendence read "Old Glory." Mrs. J. C. Collins of Independence, who is Delphian assembly leader of the two Salem chapters, Dallas, and Monmouth-Independence chapters combined, directed the singing of several songs of her own word composition; Mrs. R. D. Elliott accompanied. A one-act farce, "The Stupia Witness," added levity to the pro gram. Character impersonations were made by Mrs. E. M. The Federated Wom en's club ot Polk eounty met at the Christian church here Wed nesday with nearly 100 members in attendance. Hostesses of the day were the Dallas community clu band the EUendale club. The meeting began at 10: SO with Mrs. A. E. Utley presiding. The various clubs of the federa tion reported on the relief work being done. A resolution was made that the federation ask the ways and means committee of the state legislature to reconsider the biennial appropriation for the state board of health and ask for a public hearing on this matter. During the luncheon hour Mrs. C. N. BUyeu, state president, gave a short talk on the bills and reso lutions before the state legisla ture and urged all members to give them their support. The afternoon program opened with group singing, followed by a talk on "The Life of Georse Washington" by Mrs. James Heltzel of Salem. Other features of the afternoon were two solos by Mrs. Raleigh Middleton, ac companied by Mrs. Raider; a re port on the Christmas seal sale by Mrs. George Van Santen; a group of vocal boIos, which were written during colonial times, by Mrs. Gordon McGllchrist of Sa lem, accompanied by Mrs. Ted Gordon; an act by the high school girls tumbling team under the direction of Miss Helen Hull, and a group of humorous readings by Mrs. McGllchrist.
