It may or may not hare beea the case that Mr. Tabor, la a somewhat vague way, was act uated in his theatre building by thoughts of pleasure to be thus Imparted to a great number ot his fellow human beings. He was a warm-hearted man. And it is not unlikely the theatre he builded has done more in the way of keep ing his memory green in tha hearts of Denver folks than the same amount of money, approxi mately a million dollars, would hare done if devoted to the build ing of a hotel or a business block. What the makers of the picture "Silver Dollar," hare made ot the Tabor story I do not know. Wa shall know presently. The picture is to be shown at the Elsinore January 16. Perhaps the sentiment is some what far-fetched, but such a pic ture seems peculiarly appropriate to Salem's theatre beautiful. It haa been in my mind a long time ever since, la fact, the day when the Elsinore was named that this Salem theatre should hare been named tha Guthrie. But Mr. Guthrie, having cre ated a poem, was determined that it should hare a poetie title, and so tha theatre was nsmed for tha Danish castle that was the home of Hamlet. Horace Tabor would not hare done this. Had It been proposed to him that ha name his theatre the Elsinore Instead of the Tabor Grand, he would la all probabil ity hare asked the committee bluntly, "Who in hell is this maa Elsinore and what has he ever done for Denver?" Such is the difference la men. It Is In no way to Mr. Guthrie's discredit that he refused to glor ify himself la the naming of his theatre. Jan. 7 One of the interesting industries and business concerns ot West Salem that Is carried oa so quietly that many do not know mach a boat it is the fur business of Isaac Wilfred Thomas, who deals in raw pelts of all kinds of native animals. Friday he received a shipment of mink and coon skins from Rose Lodge, and there are dally packages from all over Ore gon and from Washington and California. The trapping season of three months, lasts from the first ot December until the last of Feb ruary. This year there were over 1000 mink pelts, which variety is next to that of the Silver Fox which leads the list followed by wolf, coon, skunk, badger, clrlt eat. lynx, muskrat. otter, boh cat, martin and fisher. Within the past year there hare been more pelts of tha silver fox than ever before end fewer pelts of the smaller animal, such as the mole, etc. Mr. Thomas, a' furrier most of his lite has been in business here for the past seven or eight rears, and offers a better market to trappers thsn the eastern mar kets. He buys as many pelt as anr concern in Oregon, but states that since the depression fewer are sent In than formerly. Prime mink pelts that will bring fiva dollars now were 316 a few years back and the furs that now bring 32.60 were 85 and 38 recently, which with the constantly decreasing supply of wild life has a tendency to re tard the trapping business.
