JEFFERSON, pec. 21. The Tarious Sun-day schools in town are busy preparing their Christ mas programs, but on account of much sickness the programs may sot be given in full. Following is the program to be given by the Evangelical Sunday school Friday night, December 23, at 8 o'clock: Song, "Darkness is Ended," choir; scripture and prayer, by pastor; song, "Christmas Wel come," Juniors; exercise, "Three Little Maids" primary children; recitation, "Christmas Wish," Clarence Wilson; song, "Away In a Manger." Juniors; recitation, "Legend of the Christ Child," El sie Doughty; song, "Just a Baby," primary girls; ladies' trio. "The Heralds' Son"; exercise, "Christ mas All the Year," Frances Wed dl and primary children; song, '"The Heavenly Stranger," Edith RICKREALL, Dec. 21. The Rickreall Evangelical Sunday school is planning a Christmas program to be given at the church Friday night. Mrs. Ellis, Mrs Par ker, Mrs. Bullock and Mrs. Clara Vaughan have charge of the pro gram. A committee of women from the Ladies' Aid will help with dec orating the church and tree. CLEAR LAKE, Dec. 21. The school will put on a Christmas program and tree Friday night, consisting of song, an acrostic, drill and three short plays. MACLEAY, Dec. 21. The school under the direction of the teacher, Mrs. Oscar Baker, and members of the community under the direction of Mrs. V. L. Marten will put on a Joint Christmas pro gram at the grange hall Friday night. LABISH CENTER, Dec. 21. The sohool's Christmas program will be given Friday night at the schoolhoue. The teachers. Miss Yo-Yo Contestants Get Break to Pat In More Practict Independence, Dec. 21 -The Yo-Yo contest which is being sponsored by W. B. Craven and Son store has been postponed from De cember 10 to January if doe to the illness and ths vacation. The contest will be held in the Independence high school gym and ii open to both boys and girls. Prize have been offered and Judges will be Profes sor Paul Robinson, . Coach Loren Mort and R. W. Craven. Jones, have arranged a program which Includes four playlets: "Santa the Third." by the low er grades, and "Mother Bakur's Christmas Play." "Too Much Christmas," and "Christina at Finnegan'a Flats," all by the up per room. There will be a pantomime, "Silent Night," besides numeraus readings and songs. CLOVERDALE, Dec. 21. A group from here attended the Christmas program at the Craw ford schoolhouse, Friday night. McClaugbry and Mrs. Charlotte which was under the direction of n n the teacher, Mrs. Mearle Hedges, whose home is in this district. The IX windows were decorated with small trees fashioned by the children, and a large poster, 1x7 feet, showed the three wise men on their camels approaching the city led by the star which ahone over Bethlehem. Christmas songs, plays and reading were included in the pro gram, with treats tarnished by the patrons of the district and the teacher. This school has 25 enroll ed in all eight grades, and with none of the pupils over 12 years old. n TO GIVE WOODBURN, Dec. 11. The sophomores at Woodburn high school are to give the Christmas program at the school Friday af ternoon. Miss Alma Taylor and T. P. Otto are the class advisors. Mrs. Abbie Homyer of San Francisco, who was called here by the death of her brother, Jake Hohcspeler, is spending some time in Jeffer son and vicinity. She is staying at the Anna Klampe home. 1 M CLUB HAYESVILLE. Dec. 21. The Hayesville community club will hold its next regular meeting Thnrsday, December 22, instead of Friday, the regnlar night. The school children will present the program in two parts. The first a playlet entitled.' "The Christ Candle," with the following chil dren in the east: Vernon Creig, Margaret Dixon, Alfred Schroeder, Arthur VanDyne, Marshall Chris tofferson. Beatrice Stammen, Sam Ishida, Eugene George, Yoshlml Saito, Carol Stnpfel, Hiroshl Shi shldo, Ernest Schroeder, Vivian Williams, Evelyn Schroeder and Frederick Ellis. The second part is an operetta, "At the Court of Santa Clans", with these children taking part: Norman Dalke, Robert Olson, Lawrence Schroeder, Richard Schroeder, Beatrice Stammen, Carol Stupfel, Betty Green. Mr. and Mrs. Sherman Miller of the Vogle . place near Claxtar. Three of the children entered school Monday. This raises the en rollment to 71, the largest num ber of children that has enrolled at one time In the Hayesville school. Mrs. Berns Christopherson, who underwent a major operation at the Deaconess hospital, was able to return to her home Friday. Flu Illness Cause Of School Closing For at Least Day CENTRAL HOWELL, Dec. 21. Illness due to colds and flu is very prevalent here. No school was held for the primary room Monday on account of illness of Miss Brautl. the teacher. News of the death of Mrs. D. 8, Simmons early Sunday morning at her home at Milwankie came to Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Sim mons. They attended the funeral in Portland Tuesdsy. Mr. and Mrs. U. S. Simmons were early residents of this community and lived on the Milne place at one time.' U. S. Simmons passed away a number of years ago. Dec. 21. The Oak Ridge school near Pra tnm, taught by Grace Klampe of this place will give a Christmas program Thursday night. The program includes two playlets and a play "Christmas Speakin' at Skaggs Sknle". Monologues will be given by Kathryn Taylor, Dor othy Parton, Earl Kleen and Stanley Parton. Seven songs, which include group, trio and quintet numbers will be given. George and Viola Tooker of Mac leay will play a piano duet and Dick Johnson a cornet solo. Others in the program are Hil da Schultx; Dena, liable and Har old Hartman; Delia and Dora May Kleen; Raymond Horton and Leslie and Frances Klampe. Mrs. Frank Welnaman was called to Portland recently by the illness, of her parents. Those in the community who are ill or re covering from illness are Vivian Jones, Mrs. W. R. Daugherty, Mrs. W. A. Starker. Mrs. Harry Lot re, Doris Lovre and Grandma Bueper. There will be no church servi ces here Sunday. Coroner A. L. Underwood said he belived the man Jumped Into the canal to commit suicide, bit that he was Investigating the possi bility he might have been killed and his body thrown Into the water. Hopewell Students Will Give Program Thursday Evening HOPEWELL, Dec. 11. A pro gram will be given at the Hope well schoolhouse Thnrsday, De cember 22 at ft p. m. nnder the direction of Mrs. Ray Cosel, teach er. It consists of several songs, plays by the women and by the school children, and music. Lunch will be served. The annual Christmas program will be presented at the TJ.
