.Youngster Finds Bees Any
thing but Friendly;
Harvest on Soon
SCIO. July 21 When Louie,
three-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs.
S. J. Bender ot near Jordan, tried
to make friends with a hire of
bees near his home, the bees re
garded his amiable Intentions by
stinging the child In nearly 40
places, - The boy was eonfined to
his bed for a day.
A rattlesnake was killed Mon
day near Jordan. A group of
children was playing near a saw
mill when the snake was disco
ered. Clyde Rogers and Van Han
dle killed It
C. E. Jennings recently sold his
SO-acre farm near Sclo to R. J.
Krebs.
Threshing ' in the Sclo region
will start within a short time and
will be in progress for sereral
weeks. Wheat and oats will yield
Biearily, According to reports from
various sections of the county.
Rumors of recent rich strikes
In the Crown mine at Elkhorn
have stirred the Interest and en
thusiasm of those connected with
the enterprise. New machinery
for reducing the ore is said to be
in prospect.
Rer. Victor Loucks, wife and
two children, are expected here
trom California the latter part of
this week. The Rer. Loucks will
preach in the Baptist pulpit In
Sclo the second and fourth Sun
days of each month. - Services will
be conducted by him July 24.
Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Leffler
of Sclo, Mrs. Delia Schelfer and
son Billy and B. H. Earle, all of
Los Angeles, left Thursday for
Welser, Idaho, where tney wui
rlsit at the home of Mrs. Lefflers
daughter, Mrs. Melvin Sweet, for
mer Sclo girl. -
Joe Lytle returned Tuesday
from an eastern trip and was ac
companied by his sister Mrs. H. C.
Gans, who will rlsit here for a
time. She has been In poor health
but is somewhat Improved. .
Workmen are repairing and re
modeling the Sclo hotel annex.
