Tax i Voted For Parked Vehicles Selling to Public DALLAS, July 20 An ordin ance proTlding for the licensing of stands and parked vehicles on tne' streets of Dallas wnlcn are used to sell merchandise, where labor , Is being performed, or where services are contracted was passed Monday night at the regular council meeting. It pro vides for a tax of 1 20 per year for a space- 6x12 feet which will be marked off for the use of the merchant operating the stand. -Thia ordinance will not inter fere with the working of the one providing for a license for ped dlers but is designed for those who plan to use such space for some time. July 20 The Salem Cherry Growers : associa tion. - which has been shipping . a carload of fine Oregon cherries daily for the past 20 days' or so,1 has " discontinued 'the - ship ments, having sent thousands, of boxes of beautifully packed fresh ripe cherries to Chicago, there to be distributed to the markets ot many of the eastern cities. Playground Field Meet Is Awaited With their big field meet only nine days away, youngsters at the Lincoln street playground are getting down to business on com petition for this event, and the older boys are helping with such necessary work as digging a pit for the Jumping events. The field meet will be Friday, July 29. Track Meet Is Event at Y.M. Outing A track meet was held at the Y. M. C. A. boys' camp at Ocean- side recently. The two women taught at Seaside together one year, and enjoyed the return to the resort on a vacation trie. Af ter their return Mrs. Tockey re turned to her home in California. Cannery on Vacation The Cleary-Hillman Packing company which has been running for some time now, putting up the early summer fruits, has closed now until the prune pack which will begin probably some time in August. The West Salem Can nery has put up and will pack as mucn mis season as last, and is gratified at the high quality used this year. July 20 The board of directors for the Lyons People's Cooperative Telephone company, held a quarterly business session at the central office Monday night. j ! Owing to the long distance ser vice being almost extinct at pres ent, the company is having some difficulty in meeting! its obliga tions, i A few patrons have discontin ued using telephones since July 1. Yet there have been some new tele phones added. But the revenue which was collected on office calls when the mills were In operation heretofore has made a large short age on the company funds.
