She sails from New York Saturday for England where she will tour for some time. Miss Millard went by the southern route to Atlantic City and spoke emphatically of the severe heat encountered. A group of young misses en joyed a pretty breakfast party at the home of Mrs. Fred Duncan Thursday with Virginia Schroeder of Portland, house .guest of Mrs. Duncan for this summer, as host ess. Covers at the breakfast table were placed for Jean Johnston, Geraldine Frigaard and the hostess. Mr. and Mrs. H. M. Hawkins will have as their guests over the holiday weekend at their cottage at Neskowln. Mr. and Mrs. James Llnnand Mr. and Mrs. Robert McMurray and son Robert Jr., of Portland. Mrs. Hawkins and ! ' Among Salem people to motor to Seattle for the holiday week end will bo Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Bonesteele, Wallace Jr. and Mari anne, and General and Mrs. T. E. Rilea and Tommy and Janet. Mr. and Mrs. Leland Smith, Mr, and Mrs. Ted Chambers and Mr and Mrs. Douglas McKay enjoyed an informal picnic Thursday even ing. Mrs. Hattle Cameron has as her house guest for over the holiday weekend her daughter, Alta Schneider of Portlad. Weekend parties will be popu lar this week with the Fourth of July added for good measure. Among those to take advantage of it will be Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Perry and small Diane, Miss Dor othy Bell, and Harold dinger who will spend the weekend at Twin Rocks. Keizer Ruth Melson and Dor othy Ruliison entertained with a house party Wednesday night at the Roy Melson home. Games and music were enjoyed. Ruth Ruilf- son assisted Mrs. Melson in serv ing. Miss Alene Phillips is again at her desk in the secretary of state's orrice, having returned this week end from St. Louis, where she at tended the national Zonta con vention as a delegate from the local Zonta club. Miss Phillips was accompanied by her mother, Mrs. M. D. Phil lips. They visited Chicago for the first dsy of the republican conven tion, which they enjoyed thoroughly. The Zonta convention was an excellent one, according to Miss Phillips. Miss Caroline Davis of Portland waa elected third vice president of the national club and will thereby be a member of tbe international board, a fact which wljl bring some distinction to the west. ' A "show boat" trip on the Mis sissippi river proved of much in terest,' as did the outdoor opera for which St. Louis is known throughout the nation. Visits to the Lindbergh memorial where trophies of his accomplishments are on exhibition were also en- Joyed. About 200 delegates from all over the- United States were in at tendance. Miss Phillips and ber mother returned by way of San Francisco, where they visited for several days. Mr. and Mrs. Keith Powell of Woodburn will spend the July 4 weekend at Neskowln. Mrs. Powell plans to remain ' there for the month of July. Picnic Supper At Bertelson Home Mr. and Mrs. John Bertelson and Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Bohrn stedt were joint hosts for an at tractive potluck supper in the yard of the Bertelson home Wednesday evening. Supper was served at tables placed in pleasing arrangement in the grape arbors and in pretty nooks. Following the supper hour a regular meeting was conducted. Rev. Ormal Trick lead the devotions and Mrs. Mason Bishop lead group singing. Spe cial welcome was given Rev. S. Darlow Johnson upon his return to his pulpit. In a pretty nuptial mass read by Father J. R. Buck in St. Jo seph's Catholic church Miss Helen Hill, daughter 'of Mrs: Harry Hill, became the bride of Walter Zleg ler, son of Mr. and Mrs. A. Zleg ler of Sclo, Thursday morning. The bride wore a frock of embroi dered dimity, tip-toe length and with fitted bodice. She was at tended by Miss Marcello Malkmus in a frock of soft blue voile. Gene Lebold acted as best man for Mr. Ziegler. Lawrence Alley was so loist and Bernard Kropp was ac companist and played the wedding marches.
