Jl A serious auto accident occurred Wednes day night about 8 o'clock when a roadster from Marshfield collid ed with a sedan on the river road about one half mile north of Kel ler schoolhouse. Mr. and Mrs. Byron Ruddell en tertained the young people of the Christian Endeavor class of the Sunday school. Mr. and Mrs. Bert Owin and son Earl and Mr. and Mrs. Harold Gwin spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Frank Kurre at Gervals. Mrs. Gwlnn and Mrs. Kurre are sisters, Independence Rural Women's club met at the G. A. Peterson. Jr., home Wednesday for an all day Quilting. A covered dish luncheon was served at noon and all members are requested to meet again at the Peterson home next I Wednesday to finish the quilt. Bring a covered dish and come early. Scribe Visits First White Girl of Linn By EMMA BILYEU CRABTREE, Dec. 31 A few days ago I visited Aunt Phoebe Turner, the first white girl born in Linn county. She Is the daugh ter of John J. Crabtree who cross ed the plains in 1815 and settled on what is known as the old Crab tree donation land claim three miles northeast of Crabtree. The old log barn still stands but the house in which she was born was torn down and moved to the pio neer picnic grounds at Browns ville. "She is the thirteenth in a fam ily ot 15 children. Rebecca Mor ris of Scio and queen of the pio neer picnio at Brownsville is an older sister of Aunt Phoebe's. In 1869 she was married to Falton Turner. Uncle Franz Nibler had the pleasure ot having all his children at home for Christmas, the first time in 38 years, or since the death of their mother. The children are Joe, of Woodburn; -Mrs. J. A.
