their favorite form of golf

Prince of Wales and more than
5,000 others, the American Walk
er cup team today won three
matches and lost only one, giving
the visitors a decided advantage
in the closing stage of the com
petition tomorrow when eight sin
gles matches will be played. All
matches today were 1C holes and
tomorrow's competition is also
over the full route.

cellent brand of golf, today went

after two fierce battles with de
fending British girls who forced
her to the 18 th green and several
times threatened to send her home

She defeated Hilda Cameron of

Enid Wilson of England In the
afternoon, each one up and found
neither opponent soft In any par
ticular. The hard hitting Helen Hicks
went down, 5 up and 4 to play,
before the harder hitting Enid
Wilson in the morning.
Diana Fishwick, who contested
with Miss Collett for the cham

While the betting favors the

(AP) Portland's Ducks had their
big scoring moment In the fourth
inning today and romped off with
a 10-7 win over the Missions. The
boys from the north scored six
runs from three hits, two errors
and two walks off Nelson and Lle
ber In that Inning, Lieber reliev
ing. It gave Portland eight runs,
enough to win. Walter Mails,
starting pitcher for the visitors,
was relieved in the eighth when
he showed signs of wildness but
he received credit for the victory.

The Pepco baseball team scored
nine runs to Kay Woolen Mills'
seven in Thursday night's Indus
trial league twilight game, but
Kay Woolen Mills' seven in Thurs
day night's Industrial league twi
light game, but Kay Mills won, 7
to 5. That was because Pepco scor
ed four runs in the first half of
the fifth; the game was called on
account of darkness before Kay
Mills could bat in that inning, so
the score reverted to what it was
at the end of the fourth.
Pepco scored three runs off the
delivery of Westley in the first
inning, and two more off Kerber
in the second. Kay Mills scored in
each inning; une in the first, three
in the second, one in the third and
two in the fourth. .

on the home grounds. Turner high
school baseball team wound up its
Schedule Monday afternoon by defeating-
Stayton high 8 to 7. Tur
ner has won three out of the four
tames played.
VALLEY BASEBALL
PLAY WILL RESUME
EUGENE, Ore., May 15 (Spe
cial) The Willamette valley
baseball leagues will resume play
this Sunday, with Eugene play
ing Salem at Eugene, while Al
bany and CorvalHs clasn at Al
bany. Although the Alco-Chick
game is a home contest for the
Corvallls players, that team re
ceived permission from the league
to play the game In Albany, as the
Corvallis diamond is not in shape
yet.
The teams are evenly matcbeu,
as the scores of past games in
dicate. Eugene and Corvallis met
twice, the first game ending in a
tie, and the second going to Eu
gene by a close decision, 6 to 4.
Albany and Salem also met twice,
Salem taking the first, 9 to 4. and
Albany reversing the score in the
second , 8 to 4.
Both games promise to be pitch
ers' battles. Art Beamis, star
pitcher for Albany, will be on the
mound, opposite Ralph Coleman,
pitcher-manager of Corvallls. Eu
gene will employ its submarine
twlrler, Bill Baker, while Frisco
Edwards, Salem manager, will use
either Jones or Russell.

(AP) The Athletics tailed to
complete an official game in their
final stand against the Chicago
White Sox today, when rain in
terrupted the contest in the mid
dle of the fifth Inning. Chicago
scored three runs in the first half
of the fifth to tie the count at
six to six. The score reverted to
the fourth inning and did not go
into the records. The Athletics had
made six runs In the second.
