The Week's SemoneUe God's Greatest Giff By REV. P. W. ERIKSEN (Paxtor American LJthcram Ctiurrti) 1. The Supreme Leader The most amaifng words ever spoken by a leader were these. "I. if I be lifted up from the earth will draw all men unto me." (Jb, 12. Si). Tested through 1300 years of unbroken validity, its power eiercised In every land has changed the lives of men and lifted nations. Other world conquerors came with force and power to extend their kingdoms and failed. But Jesus Christ stands today, supreme, alone In the hungry soul of the world, because he is Its only satisfaction. Christ is the most significant personality in history because He captures, commands and controls, the spirit of man, the spirit of God. 2. The Suprme Promise Measure a person or an institution by Its contribution to human good. Promises of Christianity cover every condition and circumstance of human experience. To me they find their richest expression In: "As are thy days, so shall thy strength be." The widow gathers her fatherless children un der its ehelter; the dying turn their failing eyea toward Its un failing beacon; the tempted take from it grace to overcome their dearest sin; the discouraged find it sounding a bugle of hope. Christ is the most significant fact iq history because of what he has contributed for the good of the race. Judge every tree by its fruit. 3. The Supreme Contribution Men may. differ in opinion as to what , the supreme contribution Christianity has made to the human race. To me there is no question that it is the sacredness of personality, the soul of the individual as priceless above rubies. Jesus gave the about-face to human society when he said: "Ye are the temple of the Holy Ghost." Then did he set a little child, babe of the humblest toiler above the diadem of the kingdom. And against everything that violates personality, every Influence that degrades the human body, debases the human mind, that pollutes the soul, Jesus has arrayed Christianity. ' The christian church has inspired and led all the great re form movements, and great missionary adventures of her intrepid saints that take their life from the fountain that flowed' from His - side who said: "Love thy neighbor as thyself." Love then Is the greatest fact in the woYld and God's greatest contribution to the human race for God is love. glad Tronroa mssioir 158 Court street. 8. Johnson, pastor. Afternoon service 3 o'clock.
