Events in the Social World "and News of Varied Club Activities s I i Beautiful Wedding Solemnized at St. Paul's 0' kNE of the loveliest weddings to be solemnized in Salem was that which united in marriage Miss Edith Brags, daughter of Mr. and Mr, r. E. Braes, and Wallace Carson, son of Mr. and Mrs. John A. Carson, Saturday at 8 o'clock in St. Paul's Episcopal efcurch. Rev. George Swift read the simple, single ring ceremony, in the presence of over J 00 guests. The altar was all in white flow ers with banks of greenery about the chancel; over this simplicity the tall ivory white service tapers threw, a soft shadowy light. Jnst at 8 o'clock, Miss Ira Claire Love, accompanied by Mrs. Marguerite Blumenberg Dalton at the organ, played as a violin solo. "At Dawning," and Mrs. Dalton followed this with Lohengrin's wedding march as a processional. "The ushers. Frank Deckebach. Jr., . Dr. Milton Steiner, Ceorge Weller and Hugh McCammon of Portland, led the way to the altar followed by three-vear-old John t arson 13ar-ch, dressed in white-r satin suit and carrying the rinjr on a white at In pillow, and wee Bar bara Lee Millc-r in ruffled pink taffeta and carrying a l-a:ket of roses, then came the bridesmaids. Miss Leah Ross, in yellow. Mrs. James King, in orchid, Mrs. Frank Deckehach, Jr., in pink and fol lowing them little Miss Sally Mc Lellan in ruffled pink taffeta car rying a basket of roses, Mrs. Dan McLellan, matron of honor, in green, followed her email daughter and preceeded Miss Bragg who entered on the arm of her fatherT E. E. Bragg. The bride was beautiful in a grown of white satin made in fit ted princess style, with long sleeves and a long train. She wore the veil of Mrs. John Carson, Sr., and her cap was. a lovely piece of poiat lace. The only ornament worn with her brides ensemble was a string of pearls, a gift of the groom. The- bride's bouquet was orchids, lillies of the valley, and butterfly roses. The bridesmaids' dresses of chif-1 fou carried the same lines of the bbride's dress; with ankle-length, uneven hemline. They each wore' close-fitting hats of lace, carried arm bouquets in pastel shades of tingle, chappy chrysanthemums. The slippers of each maid match ed her gown and on the instep glistened a tiny brilliant buckle, the gift of the bride. Mrs. E. E. Bragg was gowned In a georgette gown of rose with cut steel beads and she wore roses and violets. Mrs. John Carson, Sr., wore black lace and her flowers were also roses and violets. Immediately following the cere mony, Mendelssohn's wedding mach was played as a recessional. The guests went to the home of Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Bragg where a reception was held. Mr. and Mrs. E. E. Bragg and Mrs. John Carson, Sr., received at the door. Assisting about the living rcom were Mrs. Ardes Par ker, of Monmouth, Mrs. Walter Barsch, of Oakland, California, Airs. Mrs. Carson is a graduate of the University of Oregon where she was a member of the Kappa Alpha Delta s-jrority. She has been a member of both the Mon mouth Normal school faculty and the senior high school faculty of Salem. Mr. Carson is also a graduate of University of Oregon, where he was a member of the Kappa Sig ma fraternity. Immediately following the re ception, Mr. and Mrs. Carson left for an extended motor trip through the north and Into Can ada. On their return to Salem, where Mr. Carson is a member of the law firm of Carson and Car son, the will make their home at 570 Leslie street. X "'XlS: Inspection Event Is Splendid Success DAUGHTERS of Union Veter ans, Barbara Freltchie tent No. 2, was officially inspected Friday night at a state inspectton meeting held at the Salem Wom an's club house, beginning at 8 o'clock. The inspection was in charge of the state department president, Mrs. Maude Stevens, of Portland, who acted In place of the department inspector, Mrs. Ethel Andrews, of Astoria, de tained because of serious lilness. The local president, Mrs. C. N. Needham, presided with the state president. Following the work of the tent a supper was served under the di rection of the social committee, Mrs. F. A. Elliott. Mrs. Jennie Miller, and Mrs. O. H. Horning assisted by Mrs. C. Needham. SerTic tables were centered with bronze and yellow button chrvs- anthemums and yellow tapers. Out-of-town guests for this event were Mrs. Maude Stevens, state president from Portland; Mrs. Alice Brandon, department secretary, Portland; Mrs. Rue Ella Schaffer, Portland: Miss Ethel Plank, department senior vice president, Eugene; Mrs. May Glr ton, department chaplain, Eugene; Mrs. Rebecca Chapman and Mrs. Pearl Elliott, Eugene; and T. g. Harris, oldest comrade in Marion county. 92 years old. There was also an excellent attendance of membership. - Interesting Project. Planned by Club Tuesday evening the D. E. club held an interesting business meet ing. The club voted to give a benefit old time dance Monday, November 18, the proceeds to be usea toward the education of a young girl. The following committee will have charge of the dance: Mr. and Mrs, A. A. Mickel, Mr. and Mrs. S. J. Gentzkow. Mr. and Mrs. Al bert O'Brien, Mr. and Mrs. M. J. Petxel. Mr. and Mrs J E. Smith, Mr and Mrs. B. F. Dimeter, Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Scanider, Mr. and Mrs. A E. LaBranche, Mr. and Mrs. T. IMcClain. The place where the dance is i to be held will be announced later. ORCHESTRA Birthday Party Given For H. DeGuire Henry R. DeGuire, who cele brated his "Oth birthday recently, was given a surprise by his chil dren and grandchildren at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Thomas on Norway street. An enjoyable evening was spent and at a late fcour an elaborate supper was served by Mrs. Thom as and Mrs. R. E. DeGuire. The hallowe'en motif was carried out in both decorations and supper. Mr. DeGuire was born on the old DeGuire homestead on Pow ers Creek above Silverton Octo ber 25. 1859. His. father was F. B. DeGuire who came to Oregon from California gold fields in 1853. Much of Mr. DeGuire's life has been spent in Silverton and Salem. Those complimenting Mr. De Guire were Mr. nd Mrs. T. M. Hicks and Loren Hicks, Mr. and Mrs. R. E. DeGuire and Marvel DeGuire, iem. Birthday Is Celebrated Mr. and Mrs. C. -A. Page gave a surprise party in honor of their son. Albert E. Page, celebrating his nineteenth bithdav at their home, 1255 Court street, Monday evening. About 30 young people and friends were present. Pink and white mums, asters and chrysanthe- snapdragons decorated the living rooms. A birthday cake center the buffet. The evening was' spent in play ing games and music was enjoyed. At a late hour refreshments were served. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Fred Broer, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Lottis. Rev. R. L. P.T. A. Will Asist In "Open House" This week the schools are com memorating "education week" and as a part of their commemoration exeercises the plan is to have "open house" in the evenings. The Lincoln McKinley Leslie Parent Teachers' association plans to assist in this open house pro gram. Wednesday night it will have a corner in the reception rooms of the McKinley school where members of the organiza tion will meet the guets with re freshments and offer membership if it is desired. Exhibits will be on dis play of the work done in the school rooms. i Mrs. Floyd Utter, president of the P. T. A. announces that there is keen interest In the class in "How Children Build Habits" which is being directed by Mrs. C. A. Downs in the music room of the Lincoln school every Tues day at 3 o'clock. This work is un der the sponsorship of the A' A. U. W. So far 18 mothers have re ported for these classes and en thusiasm is keen.
